Plot synopsis[edit | edit source]
Plunged into a strange world by the crescent amulet's power, Edward Kenway experiences a vision of him walking in a room filled with tomes. A golden one hits his head and opens up into glimpses of Adam and Eve and pictures of past and future Assassins. While his head begins to ache, Edward finds a memory of Hendrik talking with a monk and how they hid a clue within a grand wooden cross. Soon, the tomes rise and begin to fly towards Edward.
In reality, the Assassin is paralyzed by the amulet while the mad monk elates at the static Edward. The monk draws a dagger and prepares to kill Edward, only to be struck by a spear thrown by the Visayan resistance's leader. With the monk bleeding out and calling his attackers "barbarians", the leader tortures him by twisting the spear and vows to use the amulet to end the foreign occupation of his people's lands. Finishing off the monk, the leader takes the amulet from his body and proclaims victory to Lapu-Lapu while Edward regains consciousness.
Disoriented, Edward claims the amulet does not belong to anyone while the leader warns him to leave and offers to spare him. Edward attacks the leader but the latter pushes him back and states that he knows Edward is a "Hidden One". Edward tries to persuade him that his usage of the amulet will make him a slave to its power, but the man rebuffs him and states that he will kill Edward if he continues to stand in his way.
Elsewhere, Shimazu Saito finally regains consciousness and notices battalions of Spanish soldiers marching in response to the riot earlier. Traveling by rooftops, she begins making her way back to the Fenghuang to escape. However, she notices Edward fighting the resistance warriors and cornered by the leader. Before the leader can land a blow, Saito saves Edward, dropping smoke bombs and telling the Assassin to leave. Edward refuses to escape without recovering the amulet, but Saito explains that Spanish troops are coming and that his crew needs him more than his quest for the artifact.
In the present, Noa Kim begins to experience a simulation error within the Animus and his heart rate starts to drop. His doctors see his health and synchronization rate deteriorate, and inform Shimazu Sei of Noa's condition. Shocked, Sei yells out for Noa to snap out of it while Noa remains sweating and motionless.
