Plot synopsis
Their armies having come face-to-face near the Forgotten Temple, Madam Lee and Alan Jacob exchange insults before the former reminds the latter of his failed plot to frame her company for opium trafficking back in Macau. As Lee makes a remark about how far the East India Company has fallen, Alan clarifies that he has not come on Company business, but rather the Templars' sacred mission. After exchanging more insults, Lee and Alan's forces prepare to clash.
Just then, however, one of Alan's men informs him of the temple's guardians moving in unison to defend the complex, with their forces vastly outnumbering their own. While Alan is distracted, the Nguyễn general tells Lee that they have neither the time nor the resources for an all-out battle, and suggests directing their army toward securing the temple to allow the Chinese Assassins to retrieve its treasure. Lee reluctantly concedes and proposes a truce to Alan, remarking that they both have more pressing matters at hand.
The Grand Master accepts and orders his men to turn back, intending to follow John Young and access the temple from the western side. As he leaves, Alan tells Lee that he doubts they will see each other again, claiming the temple will become the madam's tomb. Lee mocks Alan for always needing to have the last word, while the Nguyễn general expresses concern that the East India Company might reach the temple before them. However, Lee reveals that she has spoken with Xiao Han, who learned from the crescent amulet of an alternate entrance found on the east side of the complex. With that, she orders her forces to proceed towards the temple and eliminate any resistance along the way.
Elsewhere, having landed the Celestial Chariots near the temple, the Zhang Wei Union members come under attack by several stone guardians. Yun Pyeong-Gyu gives the order to fire their three-barreled cannons at the assailants, and instructs one of the men to load his arquebus with incendiary shells. This proves effective against the smaller statues, but a large Singha beast manages to run past the Union's defenses. Fortunately, Nagamasa arrives and strikes the statue with his naginata before shattering it into pieces with his hand cannon.
As Yun thanks the mercenary for saving his life, Nagamasa remarks that they will not be able to withstand similar assaults for much longer. He then suggests using the Celestial Chariots to fly away to safety, but Yun claims that they will be shot down by enemy troops as soon as they attempt to do so. As a defeated Yun laments that the blimps would have given them a great advantage, perhaps even allowing them to support Edward Kenway and Shimazu Saito from above, Nagamasa suddenly has an idea.
Elsewhere, "Edward" and "Saito" continue to fight against the temple's guardians but find themselves struggling against their seemingly never-ending numbers. Just then, one of the Celestial Chariots flies overhead and unleashes a mortar bombardment, destroying the statues. Saito expresses concern that the blimp will be shot down, but Nagamasa arrives and assures her that it will not be the case. His men have gone to cover the Chariot from the ground, dispatching any enemies that might attempt to open fire on it. As a group of British soldiers spot the blimp, they ready their muskets, only to be suddenly assassinated from above by three of Nagamasa's men—in reality, three Assassins who have come to help Noa Kim complete his mission.
