Finding Fritjof was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Basim Ibn Ishaq in 2020 through the Portable Animus HR-8.5, in which a vision of one of Odin's memories could be seen.
Description
After speaking with Gunborg at the Grenhellir Shelter, Havi went to search for Fritjof.
Dialogue
Havi traveled to the Jeweler's District in Uldar.
- Havi: So... Ivaldi is dead. A pity... but Uldar may yet reveal something of value that I can trade for Baldr, or use against Surtr.
Havi ventured closer to Uldar.
- Havi: Loki and I, we brought Baldr here once, to Uldar, when he was just a boy. Now both are captives. Loki, deservingly, by my hand, and Baldr by Surtr's.
Havi crossed the bridge to Uldar.
- Havi: Baldr will be saved, and his mother avenged.
Havi came across some Muspels.
- Muspel Warrior 1: Bad enough to be stuck in this pathetic city, but to serve under Glod as well...
- Muspel Warrior 2: Do not speak ill of Glod if you value your life. You've seen what he can do.
Havi entered the Jeweler's District.
- Muspel Warrior 3: I once saw Glod crush an orge's skull like it was a raw egg.
- Muspel Warrior 4: How can we trust Glod? He's half-jotun.
Havi soon saw the gold in the street.
- Havi: Gold in the streets. The house I seek should be close. This is where Gunborg told me to look.
Havi entered the abandoned house.
- Havi: What happened here?
Havi investigated the house. Havi went and searched the table with the gold objects atop it.
- Havi: The artisans who once worked here... Their life's work... How trivial these trinkets must seem now, given all that has happened.
Havi looked at the gold and jewelry on the floor.
- Havi: Jewelry for every occasion. This building surely played host to important moments in the lives of many. And look at it now.
Havi soon found a small bloody mallet.
- Havi: Someone was beaten, tortured perhaps, then dragged along the ground here.
Havi found a note after moving a crate on top of it.
- Unopened Letter from Fritjof to the Sons of Ivaldi
Sons of Ivaldi? Sons of Idiots is more apt. I have risked my life for you time and again, and the one time I ask for your aid, you leave me out to dry. What the Hel is going on up there?!
The Muspels have taken my cousin, Tyra. I cannot state it more plainly just how dangerous her situation is. Poor bint doesn't even speak the common tongue.
Send help. Right now, you utter bastards. I just need to know if she's working in the foundry, rotting at the holding cells, or up at that forsaken dig site.
I beg you.
- Havi: Fritjof writes of holding cells within Uldar. Therefore, dwarves who disobey may yet live, like this 'Tyra' he mentions.
Havi went upstairs and found a blocked path. After moving the structure in his way, Havi found another note.
- Havi: What do we have here?
Havi read the note.
- Letter from the Sons of Ivaldi to Fritjof
I hope this letter finds you well, miner. Our numbers have never been fewer, nor have we ever needed your observations more. Which is why it pains me to say this will be our final correspondence.
Something has caught the Muspels' eyes in Uldar, or close by. They flock to the city, following Glod.
If our sources are correct, a dwarf has defected. Watch your back.
Good luck. And forgive me.
– G
- Havi: The Sons of Ivaldi tried to warn Fritjof of increased Muspel activity in Uldar. I wonder, did he get to see the message? This place was used to exchange, but Fritjof was careless. The Muspels found out, ambushed him, and took him from here. To the holding cells, then... I need to get into the smelting foundry.
Havi left the house and passed through Uldar.
- Havi: Uldar's people are weak. Always have been. Too busy squabbling over their mines. I'd wager they put up no real fight against the invaders.
Havi saw a closed tavern and read the notice.
- Beware of Glod's Wrath
Dear (Former) Customers,
As you can see, the tavern is closed.
Forever.
As some of you know, Glod recently visited my establishment. Fool that I was, I tried to flatter him. Said he had the grace of a cat. And in response? He burned down part of my tavern and forced me to crawl naked through the streets. Even made me purr and meow as I did it!
So, if you value your livelihood and dignity, remember—NEVER pay Glod a compliment.
Mjodghr, (Former) Tavern Keeper
Havi found himself at the entrance of the Smelting Foundry.
- Muspel Warrior 5: Everywhere in Uldar feels cold, except the foundry.
- Muspel Warrior 6: The dwarves struggle with the foundry's heat. Filthy little maggots don't know how good they got it.
- Muspel Warrior 7: Say one thing for this infested shithole, at least the foundry isn't all bad.
Havi entered the foundry.
- Havi: Here. I can feel the smelting foundry's heat... I see why the Muspels keep prisoners here. Roast the hope out of them, the poor bastards.
Havi found himself among the forced dwarf miners.
- Havi: I pity the dwarves here. If this is their future, then for them Ragnarök cannot come soon enough. I, however, forge my own destiny.
Havi ventured further within the mines and saw Muspel warriors overseeing the dwarves.
- Muspel Warrior 8: Shut your mouth, wretch! Or do you want to bake in the cells? Stop whining! Get back to work! You work or you die!
Havi saved the dwarven captives as he spoke to the dwarf lying down hurt.
- Dwarven Captive 1: We are saved! Th-thank you! Do you have water?
- Havi: No. Which one of you is Fritjot?
- Dwarven Captive 1: Fritjof? No. I am—
- Havi: Then I do not care.
Havi spoke to the female captive.
- Havi: I'm looking for Fritjof.
- Dwarven Captive 2: They... they took him below.
Havi spoke to the male captive standing.
- Havi: You. Are you Fritjof?
- Dwarven Captive 3: I don't know any Fritjof.
Havi searched the area and found the holding cells. Havi entered the first cell on the left.
- Havi: Fritjof?
- Dwarven Captive 4: I don't know him. D-don't kill me, please.
Havi heard a voice from another room.
- Tyra: Hey! (I know where he is!) Fritjof, yah!
Havi opened the first door on the right.
- Havi: Fritjof?
- Dwarven Captive 5: Piss off! Before the guards think I called you here.
Havi heard the voice again.
- Tyra: Fritjof! Hey. Hey! Fritjof? Hey! Fritjof! (I know him! Come here!)
Havi opened the second door on the left but found dwarf corpses instead.
- Havi: Fritjof? Are you there...? Nothing.
Havi opened the last door and found a female dwarf.
- Havi: Fritjof? Is that you?
- Tyra: Fritjof? Fritjof! (I know where he is! Get me out! I'll show you!)
Havi spoke with Tyra.
- Havi: No, you cannot be Fritjof. But you know of him? Then... are you Tyra?
- Tyra: Tyra! Yah! Dere! (Come! Get me out and we'll go to him.) Dere! Fritjof!
- Havi: Do you even know where he is?
- Tyra: Fritjof! Yah! Fritjof! Dere! (Come!)
- Havi: Wait, wait. Do you understand me?
- Tyra: Ehh... (I understand that we'll die if we stay here.)
Havi shrugged.
- Havi: Just... stay behind me. And keep quiet.
- Tyra: Yah, yah... Fritjof!
- Havi: Shh. Hold your tongue!
- Tyra: Oh! Shh. Yah. (Try it, see what happens.)
Havi saw a Muspel warrior, killed them, and retrieved the Power of Muspelheim.
- Havi: Now... with this power... I can hide in plain sight, exit quietly. Stay close.
Havi attacked the Muspel warriors guarding the exit.
- Havi: The Lord of Asgard hides from no one. You. Don't die
- Tyra: (That's easy for you to say.)
Havi and Tyra left the foundry and headed outside.
- Havi: Now, to find Fritjof. Which way?
- Tyra: Yah, uh, Fritjof... uh... hey!
- Havi: Where do you leave me? Tyra...?
Havi followed Tyra.
- Havi: Tyra. Hm. A good name. Like Týr, of Asgard.
- Tyra: (What are you on about?)
- Havi: Never mind. We should hurry. Where now, to Fritjof?
Havi and Tyra arrived at a dock below.
- Tyra: Dere, dere. (Come, come.) Fritjof!
- Havi: I swear, if you leave me astray, there will be trouble.
Tyra started to row their boat across the water.
- Havi: Frankly, I'm surprised you could even see this... 'mighty galleon' from up there.
- Tyra: Ac rwy'n synnu bod gennych chi ddigon o ddeallusrwydd i wisgo'ch hun. Ac eto dyma ni. (And I'm surprised you have enough intellect to dress yourself. Yet here we are.)
- Havi: In any case... I don't suppose we can simply sail all the way to Fritjof?
- Tyra: Nah. Ymddiried ynof, dw i’n eisiau hefyd cael gwared a ti cyntaf ag y gellwyf. (Believe me, I want to get shot of you as soon as I can, too.)
- Havi: Then, the saga of Havi and Tyra begins. Don't say anything too noteworthy, there's a good lass. Let us find this relic.
- Tyra: Rydyn ni'n arbed Fritjof. (We're saving) Fritjof.
- Havi: Yes, yes, him too. Lead on...
Havi and Tyra traveled back on the mainland and saw a Muspel patrol.
- Tyra: Agh!
- Havi: I see them. Keep out of the way.
- Tyra: Yah, yah...
- Havi: I'm telling you, I was there. Glod grabbed the poor fool's head and crushed it, in front of us all.
Havi fought and killed the Muspel warriors. Havi and Tyra continued on their path.
- Havi: Come. We must not delay further. Take me to Fritjof.
- Tyra: Fritjof, yah. Dere. Dere! (Come. Come!)
- Havi: The language you speak... You're not from here, are you?
- Tyra: Beth roddodd e i ffwrdd? (You're a clever one. What gave it away?)
- Havi: Well... you picked a Hel of a time to visit Svartalfheim, that's for sure. Where do you lead me, Tyra?
- Tyra: Ble ydw i'n eich arwain chi? Ydych chi wedi bod yn talu unrhyw sylw? (Where do I lead you? Have you been paying any attention?) Fritjof. Rydyn ni'n mynd i achub (We're going to save) Fritjof.
- Havi: That isn't... Very well.
Havi followed Tyra and soon came upon a barrel with dwarf markings on it.
- Havi: The Sons of Ivaldi were active here. But no longer, I suppose.
- Tyra: Pfft. (Fuck all of them, especially) Ivaldi.
- Havi: No, they were not of much use to you. Or Fritjof. Or Ivaldi, for that matter. Let's go. Truly, I regret letting Svartalfheim fall to Surtr. Had I been more vigilant, perhaps Baldr would have never fallen into his clutches.
- Tyra: Baldr? Mae e'n Æsir gorau, ynte? (He's the only good Æsir, right?)
- Havi: My son. As kind as he is naïve. Let us hurry.
Havi and Tyra came at a crossroad.
- Havi: Which way is it?
- Tyra: (Shit. Which way is it...?)
- Havi: Tyra.
- Tyra: (I'm trying. I really don't know.)
- Havi: That's what I get for trusting a dwarf. There must be a clue here.
Havi found a clue towards the left road.
- Havi: The road heads west, and has fresh tracks from a cart. Clearly in regular use.
- Tyra: Yah... Rwy'n credu mai dyma ydyw. Ai dyma'r ffordd i (I think this is it. Is this the way to) Fritjof...?
Havi found another clue on the main road.
- Havi: This main road continues north, away from Uldar. A road like this surely leads to another city...
- Tyra: Uh... Nid wyf yn credu mai dyna'r ffordd i'r safle cloddio. Ond gallwn i fod yn anghywir. (I don't think that's the road to the dig site. But I could be wrong.)
- Havi: There must be another way to be sure. Look around, Tyra.
Havi found a clue at a tree left of the road and found a marking.
- Havi: What is this? Lettering, intentionally damaged, and written in a script I cannot read. Tyra? Can you make sense of that?
- Tyra: Yah, yah! Fritjof, Fritjof! Dere! (Come!)
Havi continued to follow Tyra.
- Havi: I find you impressive, Tyra.
- Tyra: Eh?
- Havi: A lesser dwarf would only be interested in saving their own skin. Yet here you are, on this journey, determined to save Fritjof.
- Tyra: Wel, go brin y gall yr amheus hwnnw achub ei hun nawr, a all? (Well, that numpty can hardly save himself now, can he?)
- Havi: I only wish I understood you as you seem to understand me. When we get to our destination, be sure to stay out of harm's way, yes?
- Tyra: Cawn weld. (We'll see.)
Havi and Tyra continued on their path until wolves attacked them.
- Tyra: Agh!
- Havi: Wolves. Why did it have to be wolves?
Havi attacked and killed all the wolves.
- Tyra: Hey. Hey!
- Havi: Foolish beasts. Come, Tyra, we must not delay.
- Tyra: (Yah, yah. I know.)
- Havi: I will do what must be done. But the relic is what I seek. For now, Fritjof is no more than a stepping stone.
- Tyra: Hey! Hey! Ble yr uffern wyt ti’n mynd? Dabre’n ôl! (Where the bloody hell do you think you're going? Get back here!)
Havi followed Tyra and both arrived at the Fornama Dig Site, where Muspel guards were patrolling.
- Havi: Tyra? Have we arrived?
Havi spoke with Tyra.
- Havi: What is this place? Is this where they dig for relics?
- Tyra: Shh!
- Havi: Mmnh.
- Tyra: Fritjof. Yah?
- Havi: You think Fritjof is here? Time to find out. Wait here.
Havi started to survey the dig site.
- Muspel Warrior 9: And what did Glod say when you gave him the relic?
- Muspel Warrior 10: Nothing. But I've still got my head on my shoulders, at least.
Havi soon heard a voice from a cage.
- Fritjof: You haven't heard the last of Fritjof! Muspels will fear the name! I'm not afraid of Glod! Bring him here! I'll show him! I found your damn relic, and this is the thanks I get? That's right! You all keep your distance! Bloody cowards! I'll kill you all! For what you've done to me, Uldar, to Ivaldi!
Havi came across a caged Fritjof.
- Havi: Fritjof?
- Fritjof: Who's asking?
Havi noticed the cage is locked. Havi began looking for the key around the dig site.
- Muspel Warrior 11: You know we don't have a spare for that key, right? You think Glod'll be happy to hear you dropped it down there?
- Muspel Warrior 12: Then help me fish it out! Anyway, that blind dwarf can rot in his cell for all I care.
Havi overheard a pair of Muspel warriors also talking nearby.
- Muspel Warrior 13: Eysa? Pfft. Forget her. Wanton little tart. Sinmara, now that's beauty.
- Muspel Warrior 14: She'd sooner rip out your ball-sack and slit your throat than look at you, you soft-cock.
Havi soon broke through a destructible floor and found the key underground.
- Havi: This must be the key for Fritjof's cell.
Havi went back and unlocked the cage.
- Havi: Gunborg sent me. Your people and mine share a common cause. The relics.
- Fritjof: Well, I know of only one, cursed thing. It blinded me!
- Havi: Where is it now?
- Fritjof: Get me out of here and I'll tell you where to find it.
- Havi: Can you walk?
- Fritjof: I'm blind, not crippled. But... one wrong step, and I'll be taking a lava bath.
- Havi: Then I shall carry you.
Havi carried Fritjof.
- Havi: Stay quiet, Fritjof.
- Fritjof: And you watch your bloody step.
- Havi: Are there other relics here?
- Fritjof: No idea.
Havi soon tired carrying Fritjof and put him down for a moment.
- Havi: Wait here.
- Fritjof: Like I have a choice.
Havi picked Fritjof back up again and resumed his route.
- Havi: The path is clear, Fritjof.
- Fritjof: I'll just have to take your word for it.
Havi saw Tyra waiting at the cliff top.
- Tyra: Ydy e'n iawn? Dywedwch ei fod yn iawn. (Is he alright? Please say he's alright.) Fritjof? Oh Fritjof. Fritjof! Wyt ti'n iawn? Dywed rhywbeth! (Are you alright? Say something!)
Havi placed Fritjof on the ground.
- Tyra: Fritjof! (What the bloody Hel happened to you?)
- Fritjof: Tyra? Thank the stars you're safe. I'm alright, I'm alright. Y'know all things considered. This one got you out too?
- Havi: Enough prattle. Where is the relic?
- Fritjof: Not one for small-talk, are you?
- Havi: Isn't that everything a dwarf says?
- Fritjof: Ha! Not bad. Just... keep your breeches on, yeah? That relic I found, the Muspels have it. Took it to the palace, I'd wager.
- Havi: And what is it?
- Fritjof: Damned if I know. Moment I yanked it free from the ground, there was a blast of bright white light and that was the last thing I saw.
- Havi: That's not what I asked. What does it do?
- Fritjof: Other than blind unsuspecting dwarves? Dunno. Muspels didn't seem sure either. Hence taking it to that bastard scholar, up in the palace.
- Havi: This palace, a Muspel stronghold, I take it?
- Fritjof: You're a sharp one. Ivaldi was commissioned there, long ago. Einar's there now. Piece of shit. He's the one who'll have your relic.
- Tyra: Einar? (What are you saying about) Einar?
- Fritjof: He's... he's a traitor. A dwarf, working for the Muspels. So don't you believe a word he tells you. You get a chance... you kill him.
- Havi: I shall judge who lives or dies. Where is this palace?
- Fritjof: If we're still by the dig site, you can probably see it, to the south. Modest little place, sitting atop a great bloody rock.
- Havi: Modest little place, indeed. Very well. I shall take this relic for myself. What will you do now?
- Fritjof: What's it to you, whatever-your-name-is.
- Havi: If I find you have lied to the Lord of Asgard, I will want words with you.
- Fritjof: You? You're...? Oh my days. Well, look, I got nothing to hide. We'll make for the shelter, go see Gunborg.
- Havi: Very well. If you're true to your word, then we shan't need cross paths again.
Havi left as Tyra and Fritjof headed back to the shelter to meet Gunborg.
Outcome
Havi saved Fritjof and Tyra in search of a relic and learned of its location at Hreidmar Palace.
Behind the scenes
Although the subtitles render Tyra's lines as "(unintelligible)", the game's files reveal that she is actually speaking fluent Welsh.
