Red in Tooth and Claw was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Description[edit | edit source]
Eivor found a farm encircled by a large number of Wild boars and decided to slay them.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
Eivor came upon a house beset by boars.
- Cursed Man: Away, curse-tusks. Return to the beastmaster and tell him I will not fall to the drum of your deviled hooves.
You drive me mad with snorting! I did not mean to snare the she-wolf. Tell him. Tell your master her blood is not on my hands.
Beg him, please. He must remove the curse! The forest and fields have risen up against me, red in tooth and claw.
She killed the animals and acquired a key to the house from a body nearby. Entering, Eivor found the man dead and the house full of rats.
- Eivor: Dead? From fear or something else?
Eivor read the note upon the table by the door.
Fearful Ramblings
- The Beastmaster
He lives among the animals, more beast than man. He commands all creatures, from the lowly mouse to the fearsome bear. They do his bidding, heinous and cruel. He claims to be nature's protector, but I see him with blood in his teeth, feral and wild like the wolf. And now he as cursed me. Cursed me for my terrible crime.
- Eivor: These are the ramblings of a madman, but the animals, I cannot deny they tormented him.
- (If Devil's Hole was completed earlier)
- Eivor: If this is connected to the beastmaster I met in Essexe, his reach is long indeed.
On sacks of spoiled grain laid another note.
Desperate Note
- I am doomed.
While I was hunting I came upon a she-wolf and her cubs barely older than one setting of the sun. She barred her teeth at me, and though I wanted to flee and leave the mother in peace, she chased me through the trees. I am ashamed to say I struck her a deathly blow. I did not want them to die, but what could I do? I think the beastmaster saw my deed. And now he has placed a terrible curse upon me. The boars bellow outside my door. The rats scrabble in the walls. One will get me, I know it.
- Eivor: He was terrified. Believed himself cursed after killing a she-wolf and her cub.
She noticed the piles of rotten food.
- Eivor: And that stench! Rubbish and rotting food. In his fear, he barricaded himself inside, little wonder the rats came.
Finally, she examined his body and put the full story together.
- Eivor: He fulfilled his own prophecy, and nature took its revenge.
Outcome[edit | edit source]
Eivor killed the boars and investigated the corpse inside the farm.
