Havi used his Hugr-Rip and activated the Power of Muspelheim to blend into the ritual before Calder spent all of the gathered Muspel soldiers.

Cold Embers was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Basim ibn Ishaq in 2020 through the Portable Animus HR-8.5, in which a vision of one of Odin's memories could be seen.
Description[edit | edit source]
Havi went to find the vault found in the mural before Eysa could.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
Havi arrived at the Sol-ok-Mani Vault and entered into the area.
- Havi: This must be the place.
Havi inspected the vault's doors and noticed Muspels were in the vicinity before him.
- Havi: Muspels were here. I can still smell their stench in the air.
Havi found an inactive light beam structure near a mural of the Sun.
- Havi: Now, where shall I point this one?
Havi found an inscription on a wall nearby the light beam.
- Inscription
One door opens when Sol blazes her path across the sky, the other when her pale brother peeks out from the darkness that follows.
Havi looked at another light beam structure atop pouring lava near a mural of the Moon. Using the Hugr-Rip, Havi used the Power of Muspelheim to use the light beam structure.
- Havi: This may have to match one of the doors.
Havi aimed the light towards another light beam attached to a wall in the distance and this led to the opening of the door to the left.
- Havi: That did something.
- Havi may have to wait till the Sun rose to use the other light beam.
Havi used the light beam structure near the Sun mural and aimed it at a refractor, which opened the door to the right. Havi went and entered the vault.
- Havi: Strange place. Reeks of death... I wonder what secrets I will uncover here.
Havi investigated the blood near the entrance.
- Havi: Drag marks... and blood was shed. But only a small amount... Were the victims still alive?
Havi found large ashy footprints within the vault.
- Havi: Only Muspels leave ashen footprints like these. One set larger than the rest.
Havi probed further and found two dwarven corpses near a lit sigil.
- Havi: Sigrun and Halstein... Whoever did this... I will see that there is a price to pay. The wounds in their chest... identical, and cauterized. I've seen nothing like it. It's... unnatural.
Havi looked closer at the sigil.
- Havi: Whoever was here made it a point to occupy this space.
Havi came across elven symbols with an object missing from its wall.
- Havi: More elven symbols. Whatever was in this wall sat undisturbed for many ages. Until now. Eysa sought to enter this vault and unlock its secrets. But before she could do so, someone beat her to it.
Havi collected all the clues and replayed the events before his arrival.
- Havi: That being led a group of Muspels here. Sigrun and Halstein were likely prisoners among them. Injured but very much alive. The dwarves were taken to the center of this chamber where it appears that some sort of ritual was prepared. The orchestrator came for the ancient elven object built into the wall. Possibly even used it in the ritual... Is that what led to the dwarves' deaths? The Muspels then left, taking the object with them. But the purpose of this ritual of their remains a mystery to me.
Havi looked at the sigil once more.
- Havi: That sigil... I think I glimpsed it before in Eitri while I searched for Baldr. Perhaps I will find some answers there.
Havi left the chamber and started to head to Eitri.
- Havi: I have seen the sigil from the vault around here before. Find it, and I may find the culprit. Amid all this... excitement, I have had little time to dwell on Ragnarök. When will the storm break? Tomorrow? Or far in the future... I think the latter more likely. I have Loki imprisoned for whatever role he has played in Baldr's predicament... His son too is bound by my chains. And what of Surtr? The prophecies say he must play a part in Ragnarök... But for now, he is merely the abductor of my child, not the bringer of the twilight. Still... once Baldr is safe, I will return to Asgard and raise an army. Muspelheim must be conquered. Without mercy.
Havi went and found the sigil within the guarded area of Jarn Herad. In search for the murderer, Havi found a key fragment amongst one of the Muspel guards.
- Havi: A key maybe? Or a part of one.
Havi soon found another key fragment.
- Havi: Another key? Are there more?
Havi found the last key fragment.
- Havi: A third key. Looks as though it may be complete.
Havi inspected the area and found a building. Entering inside, Havi probed the area and found a letter to Sinmara.
Letter to Sinmara
- Beloved Sinmara, mistress of my heart!
I have given great thought to our conversation, and I believe there are several candidates to consider...
Hyrrokin has been spotted in Svartalfheim, no doubt fleeing from Suttungr's cutthroats. Her hugr would be most delicious. I suggest you send your Chosen to hunt her down.
Speaking of Suttungr, I have heard rumors that his Outriders are lurking in the lonely places. Their leader, a certain Riekr, may be of interest to us... Her hugr is quite potent, I am sure.
Finally, there are whispers of a Jotun more powerful than either of these. You know the one. "The right hand of Suttungr." Still, pursuing her will be a most dangerous sport.
Food for thought!
Your eternal admirer, devoted plaything, and most loyal of servants,
Calder.
Havi looked around the grounds and found a locked door. Using the fragments together, Havi unlocked the door and entered into the workshop.
- Havi: Well, well... Whoever helmed the ritual at the vault was once here.
Havi inspected the workshop and read over the scrolls on a nearby table.
- Havi: Writings on the ritual... They are performed at night. There is emphasis on something called a "Salakar." My elven is rusty... "Vessel of souls," I think. Is this the object from the vault?
Havi read more of the scrolls behind the table.
- Havi: The culprit was deciphering elven runes... Something about the binding of only the most powerful hugrs...
Havi found and detected a note near a window.
- Havi: The culprit searches for a Jotun and a Muspel subject to complete their work. Muspels killing Muspels...
Havi went upstairs and discovered a letter from Sinmara.
- Havi: A letter from Sinmara... There's much secrecy about the culprit's affairs. Only she and Surtr are aware.
Havi looked above and found an entry to the upper level. Havi found more paperwork on a table
- Havi: The vault is marked here, along with a second location. Another ritual site, perhaps?
Havi looked over the paperwork and heard someone enter the room.
- Havi: You're light on your feet, Eysa. Following me now?
- Eysa: You've become quite useful, Aesir. My gratitude, for opening the vault. Now, tell me, what happened there?
- Havi: I'm following the stink as it rises. As are you. Care to tell me why that is?
- Eysa: Days ago, Sinmara ordered my best warriors to the vault without bothering to inform me. I've not heard from them since.
- Havi: Well, you're casting your suspicions at the right people. Whose quarters are these?
- Eysa: His name is Calder. An adept in magic. Or "seidr," as you Asgardians sometimes call it. This place is where practices it.
- Havi: Whatever he's doing it, it is not seidr. At least not as I know it. He is using something called a Salakar. It is part of a deadly ritual. And from what this room tells me, the dead will continue to pile up. Dwarves. Jotnar. Muspels.
- Eysa: I don't know what you're talking about.
- Havi: You wouldn't. Your stepmother despises and distrust you. Your father only the latter of those. For now. But in time, thanks to her venomous whispers, he may come to hate you as much as she does.
- Eysa: This is a lie. All of it. Your twisted attempt to pit me against them.
- Havi: Sift through the mess yourself. No other truth lies within.
Havi started to leave the room.
- Eysa: Where are you going?
- Havi: After the Salakar. Whatever it is, your father needs it. It may be the only leverage I have to get my son back.
Havi left Eysa to discover what he found herself.
- Havi: Calder marked a place on a map surrounded by waters just northeast. If he's planning another ritual there, I may be able to understand what this Salakar holds.
Havi traveled to the northeast of Svaladal and arrived at Gullthorp.
- Havi: Calder may be nearby. This roof should give me a clear view.
Havi made his way to the roof and waited till he saw Calder. Afterwards, Havi saw a group of Muspels surround their lord, Calder.
- Muspel Warrior 1: Lord Calder, with your permission we will now return to Eysa.
- Calder: Soon. I have need for you still.
- Havi: Eysa's warriors. Where do they fit into all this?
Eysa's warrior nodded.
- Calder: You are one of her captains, yes?
- Muspel Warrior 1: A duty I share with two others here.
- Calder: I thought I saw something in you. Stout. Resolute. Step over here.
- Havi: Sigrun and Halstein were two of the most revered Sons of Ivaldi. If such prestige is a requirement for these rituals, then Calder is surely luring that Muspel to his death. I wonder if there's a way I can observe the ritual up close.
Havi witnessed Calder stand before a gathered circle of seven Muspel soldiers, two his guards and five sacrifices.
- Havi: I need to approach Calder without him taking notice. Perhaps the best way is with deception...
- Calder: Come! Join me, chosen ones! Together, we will enact Surtr's will! Who among you will hold that distinct honor? Let us see...
Havi spied on the ritual while he considered his course of action. Calder approached the first warrior.
- Calder: Steady. In service to Surtr we have nothing to fear.
- Muspel Warrior 2: What are you going to do with that?
Calder held the Salakar before the warrior, drawing out his hugr. He perished instantly in the doing.
- Calder: I will just have to try another.
He walked to the next warrior.
- Calder: Hold your head high, warrior, and the Salakar will welcome you in.
- Muspel Warrior 3: Let it bring me the greatest honor.
The Salakar killed the warrior in an instant.
- Calder: Weak.
He walked to the next warrior.
- Calder: A fierce hugr burns within. Will you offer it to Surtr?
- Muspel Warrior 4: If this is what I must give...
The Salakar killed him as well.
- Calder: What a waste.
He walked to the next warrior.
- Calder: Your Lord thanks you... for all that you will give.
The warrior stood silent as the Salakar claimed another life in vain.
- Calder: Worthless.
He walked to the final warrior.
- Calder: An unparalleled honor.
Despite Havi's efforts to infiltrate the ritual, Calder sacrificed the last of the gathered Muspels in vain, leaving only him and his two personal guards.
- Calder: Unsuitable. Each and every one... I will return at nightfall with new subjects.
- Havi: Calder has left, but without successfully claiming a hugr. He may try his hand another night. As will I.
Havi was detected by one of the Muspel sentries. Calder ordered the intruder killed while he promptly fled.
- Calder: Kill the intruder!
- Havi: Damn.
Havi joined the ritual in disguise without arousing suspicions, taking note of the Salakar in Calder's hand. Calder walked towards Havi and held it aloft, sensing the strength of his hugr. He roared and thrust the Salakar into Havi's chest. Doing so, Calder saw visions of Havi's past and deduced the Muspel was Havi in disguise.
- Calder: You!
However, Eysa attacked by throwing a spear at the Salakar, dislodging it. She ran forward to press her attack, but Havi held her back.
- Havi: No! Mind the Salakar!
- Eysa: Let me kill him!
Havi and Eysa scuffled as he tried to restrain her, but she freed herself. However, Calder retrieved the Salakar and made to escape.
- Calder: Kill them!
Eysa growled and unsheathed a knife. Eysa gave chase after the fleeing Calder, while Havi was left to face the Muspel warriors.
- Havi: Calder fled north-west, with Eysa snapping at his heels. They can't have made it far.
Havi fought his way out and escaped the guards.
- Havi: Eysa chased after Calder like a rabid hound. Though he is no helpless rabbit... What signs might I find of this pursuit?
Havi continued down the path to track Eysa and Calder.
Outcome[edit | edit source]
Havi learned of the Salakar and attempted to retrieve it from the Muspel lord, Calder. After Havi's disguise was broken, Surtr's daughter Eysa attacked Calder for sacrificing her soldiers. Calder ordered his men to kill Havi and fled, with Eysa giving chase.
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Calder's initial line during the sacrificial ritual is not subtitled, but it is discernible from the relative safety of the rope line spanning the area behind Calder. Discerning the voices of the other warriors requires getting very close to the ritual, and even the enhanced Power of Muspelheim will not have enough duration to last the entire speech, thus putting the player at greater risk of discovery.
