Ulfbehrt Sword was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan in 2020 through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Eivor finds a map to a thieves' camp.
Eivor entered the military camp of Pruvinis and noticed the telltale signs of a Viking raid.
- Eivor: Raided. Someone has been here.
She climbed the stairs and overheard two soldiers.
- French Soldier 1: Barely two days since we took the sword and now, gone! Bah!
- French Soldier 2: Merde... I blame Herbric. He must have been sleeping at his post that night.
- French Soldier 1: Now he sleeps in Hell, well deserved.
She dealt with the soldiers and inspected the pile of weapons thrown aside on the ground.
- Eivor: Scattered swords on the ground... the thieves must be looking for a weapon.
She read a note nearby.
Map to Thieves Camp
- Ulfberht Sword, military camp.
Take and return.
If separated, meet back at hideout north of Pruvinis.
Map on the back.
- Eivor: A letter, and a map. The thieves left evidence. They stole an Ulfberht sword? If rumors are true, that blade is made of crucible steel. Might be worth looking for.
Eivor made her way to the location on the map, the ruined temple of Blihaut, and soon found a scribbled diary page by a small camp fire.
Diary of Bo
- Writing to remember adventures with brothers, kin.
–––
Ul is a basterd. Took my share of meade.
–––
Hear of great sord by smith. Oofbert sord. Brothers we go, when sun is up.
–––
DEAD ALL DEAD
Eivor found Bo surrounded by many corpses and looking at the temple's waterfall pool, whispering to himself.
- Bo: Beautiful... simply beautiful... mine, only mine! It was worth it. Truly, it was. For you belong only to me. Me! Only me! Ah, my friends, I weep for you. You should have let me have it!
Eivor approached him.
- Eivor: That sword you hold, the one you stole from the camp—
- Bo: We stole. These men and I. But there is only one sword and can be only one owner. Týr's Hand is now mine. My dear friends, my brothers, my kinsmen! They coveted it, but I could not let them have it. No... I had no choice...
- Eivor: An Ulfberht sword, made from crucible steel. I've never seen one up close. It sells for a large amount of coin.
- Bo: There is almost no price that can match the sword. It has both immense power and beauty. Once you wield this sword, you will understand. Though that will not happen. If you want it, there is only one way. We must fight.
- Eivor: Look at me. Look well. Do I look like these men? Make the wise choice and give me the sword.
- Bo: I am looking. I am seeing. I... No. I killed my brothers, I must have it. Else it will be all for naught...
- Eivor: They are gone, and you deserve no respite for betraying your kin. Leave the blade, walk away, and never appear before me again.
Bo gave Eivor the blade Egbert and though weaponless, resumed his ranting as Eivor walked away.
- Bo: Beautiful... simply beautiful... mine, only mine! It was worth it. Truly, it was. For you belong only to me. Me! Only me! Ah, my friends, I weep for you. You should have let me have it!
- Eivor: He killed his men. His brothers, his kinsmen. All for a sword.
- Eivor: Would you not part with it for a hefty sum of coin?
- Bo: Týr's Hand has no price! It is priceless, an object of the gods! But... how hefty are we talking?
- Eivor: Quite hefty.
- Bo: Then I shall accept. I will take the coin and live for my brothers. Now, leave me.
- Eivor: The one and only way it shall be. We fight.
- Bo: Your confidence is heartening, but you chose wrong, friend. None can hope to hold against this master-crafted blade!
Bo drew Egbert and attacked Eivor.
- Eivor: Give up the sword and you can walk away with your life.
- Bo: You think me afraid? Look around you! These were my brothers, my friends!
Eivor wounded and weakened him.
- Eivor: You would die for a piece of metal?
- Bo: Fool! This is no ordinary metal! It is mine!
Despite Bo's boasting, he proved no match for Eivor and was killed.
- Eivor: Now to take the sword for my own.
Eivor claimed the weapon and walked away.
- Eivor: A fine weapon. Heh, I should probably not let Toka see this.
Eivor received the short sword Egbert.
If Bo is left alive either through persuasion or outright buying the sword, he will remain at Blihaut looping his initial ranting as though he still possesses it.
Although Bo wields Egbert in battle and it has its usual profile of a short sword, his moveset is more like the Zealots and other boss-class enemies that wield greatswords, and the blade has the hitbox to match despite being visibly shorter.
