Amber Sun was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
After killing all of the members of the Children of Danu and claiming their amber shards, Eivor returned to the druid Deirdre Na Linni to follow up on the priestess' offer of learning untold power.
Eivor approached Deirdre's hut in Asfinn and saw a spear embedded in the base of a nearby large stone carved with the triskelion rune. She tried to pull it out, but the spear would not budge. Deciding to try again later, she resumed course for Deirdre's hut. Entering it, she saw Deirdre look up from preparing a mixture at the table.
Eivor reached into her pocket and withdrew the bloody amber shards.
Deirdre took them and turned away, staring at the amber in distant thought.
Deirdre stepped to her cauldron hanging over the fire.
She dropped the amber into the pot, which emitted a hiss of steam. Outside, the sun moved through the sky until it was evening. Eivor woke from a nap as she leaned on a table.
Deirdre took a spoon and portioned out a serving of the mixture from the cauldron into a clay bowl.
She walked past Eivor to her door and exited. Eivor followed, bristling at Deirdre having withheld information.
The women left the hut and walked down the path to the spear embedded in the stone, where an altar with candles had been arranged by other druids during the day.
They arrived at the altar, where Eivor crossed her arms in disbelief.
Deirdre turned from the altar to face Eivor.
Deirdre set the bowl on a table.
(Accept – "I am ready to fight.")
Eivor reached for the bowl and knelt on the ground.
Eivor drank and the mixture took immediate effect, making Deirdre's final words echo in Eivor's ears.
Eivor sat down and was transported to a vision of a stone circle surrounded with patches of flame. She awoke kneeling in the ankle-deep water that flooded the area, and saw the place was thick with smoke from the fires outside the dueling ground. Across from Eivor knelt a towering ram-horned figure of bone and sinew, its bowed head covered in a golden mask with a central spike, and its left hand holding a crudely shaped greatsword point down into the ground.
Balor abruptly jerked his head up to "look" at Eivor, then stood to the sound of knocking bones. Eivor likewise rose to face her opponent.
Balor's right hand grasped the handle of his sword and he swung it in an arc over his head then slammed it into the ground as he issued his own challenge.
Balor hunched over and the duel began, with Eivor attempting to land blows where she could, and the god alternating between leaping across the circle to attack with a sword-first aerial dive, or swinging left with the sword, following through with a sweep right, and then using the momentum to end with an overhead blow.
After being wounded, Balor collapsed to a knee.
Balor removed his mask, revealing glowing white eyes in a long skull-like face lacking a mouth, with a third eye located in the middle of his forehead. Balor struck the ground with his sword and the surrounding fires increased in intensity, filling the air with embers and more smoke. The duel resumed and Balor changed tactics, this time alternating his previous attacks by using his third eye to set his sword ablaze and striking the ground to create a wall of flame, stabbing the sword into the ground to create a circle of fire, or using his third eye to emit a laser.
Despite these new attacks, Eivor continued to evade them and strike at Balor until she brought him to a knee again and on the verge of death, though he remained defiant to the end.
Rushing forward, Eivor slid between Balor's legs as he failed to grab her. Climbing up his back, she jumped from his shoulders and turned around midair to smite his head, finally felling the god. With Balor's death, the invisibility cloak he used to conceal Gae Bolg's spear haft fell away from the spear head lodged in his lower back. Eivor grasped the spear with both hands and pulled, only to wake from her vision during early morning as she extracted Gae Bolg from the rock with an electric crackle. Red lightning flicked about the spear and Eivor gave it a few experimental swings before placing it with her gear on her back.
Eivor made her way to Deirdre's hut and found the priestess crouched in her garden tending to a bush.
Deirdre stood up from the bush and turned to face Eivor.

After consuming a psychoactive mixture prepared by Deidre, Eivor had a hallucinogenic vision where she fought and defeated a manifestation of Balor for possession of the spear Gae Bolg.
