Having survived Engelwin's attack on Melun, Eivor made plans to travel to Paris to hunt him down, but barely moved one step before Pierre called out to her.
Pierre:Eivor! Over here.
Eivor walked over to Pierre's outpost and spoke with him.
Eivor:Pierre. What is this about?
Pierre:We have a shared interest... you in resisting Francia's Norse-loathing loyalists, me in getting paid.
Eivor:Those do not seem connected.
Pierre:I am working with a rogue band of men and women across Francia who tire of the chaos Charles' rule brought. Their numbers are small. Few are foolish enough to resist well-equipped loyalist forces.
Eivor:You do not believe in their cause?
Pierre:I do not, but they do. This is where you come in. Help them, and you will have ample reward for your effort.
Eivor:It is strange that you support them while believing their cause ill-fated.
Pierre:What kind of monster would I be to dash the hope they hold in their hearts? Anyway, there is profit to be made, and only a fool ignores that.
From then on, Pierre would offer Eivor the options to take on Rebel Missions, as well as whether or not to return to England.
Pierre:How can I help? What do you want to do? So, what will it be?
Eivor:What have you got for me? Show me what is available. What do you have?
Pierre showed her the list of available missions. She may have declined the available missions for the time being.
Pierre:Nothing to your liking? Well, you know where to find me when you change your mind.
Pierre:Back to England?

Return to England.=
Eivor:To England.
Pierre:Off we go then.
Pierre made arrangements to return them and her longship crew home to England.

Stay in Francia.=
Eivor:I will stay for now.
Pierre:Fine with me. Food and drink are better here.
Eivor:I'll be back later.
Pierre:Well, you know where to find me if you change your mind.
Inside the tavern, Eivor read a note addressed to one of the rebels.
Folded Letter
Dero,
I do not want what happened during the last mission to repeat itself. Stay alert, be wary, and do not be heroes. I will see you and the rest when you are safely returned.
Pierre
PS: Tell Enna to reserve her recklessness for Orlog.
In time, Eivor began undertaking missions, either in groups with allied rebels or solo, to aid the rebel cause. As Eivor completed these missions and reported back, Pierre offered praise in a variety of ways.
Pierre:Well done, Eivor. I expected nothing less. Magnifique! (Magnificent!) If you want do more, I'll be here. Good work. Let me know if you're looking for more to do.
After her first victorious mission, Eivor's Infamy spread quickly and inspired more people to join the cause. Returning to Pierre, she found him besieged by a mewling kitten.
Pierre:Mon Dieu! Stop this infernal mewling, else I swear I will turn you into soup!
Eivor approached him to deliver her report, then spoke with him more casually.
Eivor:I did not take you for a lover of cats.
Pierre:I am not. One of the rebels picked it up during a mission. Nearly cost the fool his life.
Eivor:Animals are true-hearted. That cat will be a loyal companion to the end of its life.
Pierre:I doubt it. Felines are crafty, sly. They follow their own agendas, much like myself. Once he has had his fill of food and drink, I predict a quiet disappearance. Speaking of disappearances... the loyalists grow fewer. Our missions are going well.
Eivor:Am I detecting some sentiment?
Pierre:We are making small change, but it is not enough... and it matters not, so long as we make a profit.
Eivor continued her missions. Seven more increased her Infamy to a new height, at which she reported back to the main outpost in Melun. New recruits had joined the cause and were in high spirits about Pierre's feline tag-along.
French Man:Pierre! Don't forget, it's your turn to feed Fantôme today.
French Woman:It is always Pierre's turn. And he'll sooner jump into the lake than forget to feed Fantôme.
Pierre:Shut up, both of you.
Eivor delivered her report for the preceding mission and gave her own commentary on the cat.
Eivor:I am surprised to see that cat still here.
Pierre:It will not leave, and it takes up space. It does not help that Dero and Enna find amusement in how attached it is to me.
Eivor:Your little band of rebels is growing.
Pierre:Funny. But truthfully, they grow stronger with each victory, as does their confidence. They are bolstered by our victories. And it's easier to convince new recruits to join.
Eivor:Soon this hideout will not hold them all.
Pierre:We will face that when the time comes. For now, we fight.
Eivor returned to work, clearing a dozen more missions and pushing her Infamy to the highest level in Francia. The outpost in Melun had developed into a bustling hub full of drink, merriment, and hope for the future.
French Woman:It's Eivor! Come join us!
French Man:You too, Pierre! It is time for merriment!
Near Pierre, Eivor found a journal he had kept.
Pierre's Diary
The stray cat Dero found when on his last mission has been resting near my bed recently. Perhaps because I gave it some cheese. ––– Fantome is a good name. I suggested it to Enna when she first said it needed a name. It suits the cat, as it comes and goes when it pleases. ––– Our missions proceed well—much better than I hoped. I admit, I had my doubts about this untidy little band of justice fighters. Small men with big dreams, are we not? Well, it is miraculous that we have come to where we are. These people, dare I say it, have become like family to me now. Incroyable.
I must remember to get more of that cheese Fantome likes so much.
She spoke with Pierre to deliver her report, then spoke to him about the revelry.
Eivor:Is this a celebration?
Pierre:In a way. A break, for all our hard work. Come, drink with us.
They gathered at tables around the side of the outpost, where many rebels were seated and drinking enthusiastically.
Eivor:The place is starting to look more like an alehouse than a rebel hideout.
Pierre:We call them taverns here, Eivor.
Pierre took a deep swig from his mug.
Eivor:Careful, too much wine and a man's heart is laid open for all to see.
Pierre smiled and turned to address the crowd.
Pierre:Good people! I do not make long, flowery speeches.
Eivor shook her head with a smile.
Pierre:What I want to say amounts to but a few words. We have arrived. A toast! To us, and to Eivor!
The crowd murmured in approval while Pierre took another swig.
Eivor:'You have become softer than the cheese you love.
Pierre:I did not have any hope for this movement when we started. Or rather, I did not want to have any. A small group of armed peasants against, what, an army of trained soldiers? But now...
Eivor:It is not through numbers that victory is gained, but in the hope and courage of those who fight.
Pierre:Bah. Hope is an ugly word. But, mon Dieu, they made me... feel.
Eivor:"For friends last longest, if fate be fair, who give and give again."
Pierre looked at her quizzically.
Eivor:A verse from the Hávamál, words of wisdom we follow.
Pierre:Poetic, for a bad for a collection of blood-thirsting raiders.
Pierre and Eivor laughed together and the celebration eventually winded down.
Aside from one line of dialogue at the end of Majesty in the Dark—which strictly references whether or not the Rebel Missions have yet been unlocked—there are no other references in the entirety of the Siege of Paris DLC to the missions themselves or Eivor's progression within them, and they do not affect the ease or difficulty of subsequent memories or the final outcome of the campaign.
The Infamy mechanic dictates not only which Rebel Missions become available, but which rebel upgrades and pieces of the Reaper's Armor Set the player can purchase. Level 2 is achieved after completing a single mission, Level 3 is achieved after 7 more missions, for a total of 8, and Infamy maxes at Level 4 with 12 more missions after that, for a total of 20. In this respect, there is no extra benefit for completing missions that are further away from outposts, the difficulty of the objective, or conducting a mission solo or with rebel allies; for the purposes of maxing Infamy, the objectives that are most quickly reached, completed, and turned in will accomplish this goal with the greatest expedience.
Missions can be repeated infinitely, including ones that were just completed, though a mission's exact location/route tends to cycle between a couple of objectives. Players who develop a preference or rhythm for a particular mission location may be able to optimize and complete its missions 20 times, thus filling the Infamy bar in a more timely fashion than doing several different missions across Francia once or twice.
Missions that are labeled as "Nearby" to an outpost will only reward 150 silver denier, whereas those that do not have the 'Nearby' label will reward 200. However, the criteria by which the game considers a mission nearby or "far away" does not appear to be measured simply in raw proximity. In one particular example, players can take one of a pair of missions in Melunois that sends players after an enemy patrol/escorted target along the route between Stampis and Lisieux (or Charles's Forward Camp), which is not treated as Nearby to either Pierre's outpost in Melun or the considerably closer rebel outpost in Chartres. Starting from either outpost will thus provide the "not-Nearby" payout, and the latter of which is roughly 200m from the objective, allowing for the objective to be reached, completed, and turned in relatively quickly.
Missions will be added as new regions of Francia are discovered. For example, missions directing to Silmesnil will appear after crossing the border into Evresin, and missions directing to as far away as Meledus and Suessionum will appear after a single step into Amienois. Locations such as these are further afield and have more intricate enemy placements, and their availability will make it more difficult to draw comparatively easier missions from the pool. Thus, it behooves players to start the Rebel Missions as soon as they complete Warlord of Melun.
