The Warlord's Daughter was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Basim ibn Ishaq in 2020 through the Portable Animus HR-8.5, in which a vision of one of Odin's memories could be seen.

Description[edit | edit source]

Havi tracked Surtr's daughter Eysa to a smeltry and asked the dwarves enslaved there for more information on his quarry.

Dialogue[edit | edit source]

As Havi's quest began, he reflected on the elves in a conversation he had with his son Baldr, when he was a child.

  • Havi: Really, Baldr? How many times must you ask about the elves? Fine, I will tell you once more. They were brighter than the sun, and their understanding of the sacred hugr was far beyond even my own. And then, one day, the news came of what Surtr had done to them... Even Loki wept. As for their knowledge of the hugr, it now resides solely with the Lord of Muspelheim.

Havi made his way to the smeltry Gufathorpe, having recalled the information he gleaned about Eysa from the dwarves in Jordeygr Shelter.

  • Havi: If Surtr has a heart, I shall put it to the test. Surely his beloved daughter's life is worth Baldr's freedom? The dwarves at the smelting camp... maybe they can help me hunt down the little princess.

Havi reached the smeltry.

  • Havi: That stink... Smells worse than Ivaldi's Forge back in Asgard. Let's see what these dwarves can tell me about Eysa.

Havi entered the smelting grounds.

  • Bumnoli: No, no, no! What is... What... Argh!

Havi approached a female dwarf woman near a giant bellows.

  • Havi: You toil as if tomorrow will never come. Is this the pace Eysa demands?
  • Nisdelle: It keeps her pesky rodents off my back. Keeps me fed. Well... barely. At this rate I could eat a troll.
  • Havi: I imagine the hunger pangs hit quite frequently here. May I offer you something to eat?
  • Nisdelle: It would surely help keep this "toiler" going.

  • Havi: I have something that will sate your belly, and hopefully rouse your spirits.

  • Havi: I do not have any food to give you yet.
  • Nisdelle: That's a shame.
Havi left to collect some food, then returned.
  • Nisdelle: Ah! It is you. Have you returned with a hearty meal?
Havi gave her the food.

  • Nisdelle: How can I repay such a kindness?
  • Havi: Eysa is a common enemy of ours... and I'm looking for her.
  • Nisdelle: Hah. Common enemy is right. If I had it my way, I would bash her pretty face into scalding goo. Sadly she has not returned for me to try my hand. And I do not know where she has gone.
  • Havi: Is there anything you can tell me?
  • Nisdelle: Hmm. I get the growing sense you mean to confront her.
  • Havi: Forcefully.
  • Nisdelle: Then do have caution. Eysa can use magma to treat her wounds. Quite quickly, I might add. She always has a silky fresh layer on her skin.
  • Havi: I'll have to remember that.

Havi left, though Nisdelle had some final parting words for him.

  • Nisdelle: If you see Eysa, you will give her my friendly regards, won't you?

Havi continued walking and saw another female dwarf near stacks of ingots.

  • Havi: You and I should talk.
  • Dwarven Captive 1: High One? Is that really you? What are you doing here?
  • Havi: I've come looking for Surtr's daughter, the one they call Eysa. I hear she frequents this place.
  • Dwarven Captive 1: She makes her rounds. Comes to see that we are working as best we can.
  • Havi: What is all this work for?
  • Dwarven Captive 1: Who knows? She brings us the ores. We extract the metals. They go to Surtr for whatever it is he so desires.
  • Havi: And what is she like, this Eysa?
  • Dwarven Captive 1: Get on her bad side, and she'll bark her threats. But so long as you keep on the straight and narrow, she is... tolerable. Ensures you are well fed and healed of your wounds. Sets the bar high for a Muspel.
  • Havi: Where might I find her now?
  • Dwarven Captive 1: I do not know, but you can try your luck around the kiln.

Havi left to visit the kiln.

  • Havi: Eysa appears soft of heart. For a Muspel.

Havi spoke to a nearby dwarf.

  • Havi: I am looking for the one they call Eysa. Does the name mean anything to you?
  • Dwarven Captive 2: It means I should not be talking to you. Nor should any of the others. Now go, before you land us both in hot water. Hot magma, more like...

Havi met another female dwarf walking back and forth in the smeltry.

  • Havi: Can you spare a moment?
  • Dwarven Captive 3: Piss off, one-eye.

He arrived at the kiln and saw a male dwarf covering his head as smoke poured into the shop from the oven.

  • Bumnoli: No, no, no! What is... What... Argh! (coughing) This is bad. This is very, very bad!
  • Havi: Huh, friendly...

Havi spoke to the coughing dwarf.

  • Havi: Are you all right?
  • Bumnoli:Move away! I need to fix this or I'll lose the whole batch along with my head! (coughing)

Havi realized the chimney was blocked and left to clear the obstruction.

  • Bumnoli: Think, Bumnoli, think!
If I could just free that damned trap.
    How can I loosen it?

Havi saw a giant raven's nest built on the chimney. He set it aflame and leapt back to the ground.

  • Bumnoli: Ymir's beard! It works! It works!

Havi returned to Bumnoli and saw the shop had cleared of smoke.

  • Havi: As good as new.
  • Bumnoli: You have done me a great service. I could kiss you!
  • Havi: I'd prefer you use your lips to tell me where I may find Eysa.
  • Bumnoli: Eysa? What business does an Æsir have with a Muspel princess?
  • Havi: I have a... quarrel with Surtr. His daughter will help me rectify it.
  • Bumnoli: And how do you plan on that? Eysa may come off as a young cub, but she does have a dark side.
  • Havi: As do I. Can you tell me where to find her or not?
  • Bumnoli: Not exactly. The resources we receive come from a mylna, but I haven't got a clue which. Our blacksmith, Glamnic... Eysa took some of his workers with her. He may know more. But have caution. Last I heard, the guards are making an example out of him.

Havi travelled east and found an open lava pit patrolled by Muspel soldiers with Glamnic in the middle on a cooled patch of rock.

  • Glamnic: Come now. That is enough, is it not?
    Please! Let me out!
  • Muspel Warrior 1: Any longer and we may have to scoop you out with a spoon.
  • Muspel Warrior 2: Oh, I would hate to have to do that...
  • Muspel Warrior 1: He looks as though he can handle it. What do you reckon? A tad longer?
  • Muspel Warrior 2: Wouldn't hurt. Ensure the message is fully understood.

Havi eliminated the guards and rescued Glamnic, setting the Power of Muspelheim into the Hugr-Rip to walk upon the lava, then hoisted the smith over his shoulders and carried him from the site.

  • Glamnic: O! What are you doing?
  • Havi: Getting you out of here. Now keep quiet.
  • Glamnic: Quiet? My arse is on fire! Wait! You can walk over magma!?

Havi soon tired carrying Glamnic and set him down.

  • Glamnic: Agh! Don't leave me here, you oaf!

Havi picked up Glamnic again and resumed the trip back to Gufathorp. The pair eventually reached the smeltry.

  • Glamnic: We are in the clear, I think! Put me down. Put me down!

Havi set him down.

  • Havi: Are you okay?
  • Glamnic: I owe you my life. Those Muspels were prepared to let me bake to death.

  • Havi: You are in no debt to me. Though as it turns out, I have need of your help.

  • Havi: You are in no debt to me. Though as it turns out, I... I have need of your help.

  • Glamnic: Me? What can I help you with?
  • Havi: Putting a stop to this invasion.
  • Glamnic: I am listening...

  • Havi: I know Eysa oversees your work, and I need to find her. What do you know of her whereabouts?

  • Havi: I know Eysa oversees your work. I need to find her. What do you know of her whereabouts?

  • Glamnic: Nothing more than which way I saw her leave. It was... east. Though, interestingly, she took a bunch of my people with her. Diggers. Maybe she is scouring another site.
  • Havi: That is helpful. Farewell, and keep safe.

Havi took his leave.

  • Glamnic: At last! O, relief!

Havi spoke to Glamnic a last time.

  • Glamnic: Go east. That is where I last saw Eysa headed.

Havi also visited a dwarf blacksmith near the entrance.

  • Havi: I would have a word with you.
  • Durrigor: An Æsir? You... you should not be here.
  • Havi: I'll only take a moment.
  • Durrigor: Please go. I do not want trouble with the guards. They allow me to speak only when reporting to them, and them alone.

Havi left and thought how he might get the dwarf to speak with him.

  • Havi: I should disguise myself as a Muspel.

Havi set the Power of Muspelheim into the Hugr-Rip and used it to create a Muspel disguise, then returned to Durrigor again.

  • Havi: Do not react. It is I, the Æsir.
  • Durrigor: Wh-What? That is quite the disguise. If Loki is giving lessons, tell him we could use his expertise.
  • Havi: I have him locked away in a dungeon cell for roughly the next thousand years.
  • Durrigor: Ah... So then, what brings you? You have not come to lend your hand in the muck...
  • Havi: I'm looking for Eysa. Can you help me with that?
  • Durrigor: Surtr's daughter? Haven't seen her for some time now. She's got her minions keeping a watchful eye on us though. What I can say is that wherever she goes, she makes it a point to forge large magma pools. Seen her do it here. Walks around in them. I hear she can even move through them.
  • Havi: Something to look forward to.
  • Durrigor: Crafty, she is. If you see any liquid-fire pits, it may be proof she is nearby.
  • Havi: I will keep an eye out.

Havi left to follow the dwarves' directions.

  • Havi: Some other task has stolen Eysa's attention as of late. If she is distracted, that will make capturing her all the more simple.

TBD

With his investigation complete, Havi headed northeast and soon reached Stór Mylna, which was mostly flooded with lava.

  • Havi: I wonder how Eysa feels about uninvited guests.

Havi entered the mylna's grounds.

  • Havi: Everything a Muspel princess could ever want.

Havi investigated the magma pool in the courtyard, intrigued by a stone statue near the lava's edge of a woman holding a spear.

  • Havi: What is this?

Havi looked closer, then smirked upon realizing what it was and turned to walk away, only to stop when he heard the statue's exterior crumble in glowing light as Eysa revealed her true form.

  • Eysa: Are you lost, Æsir?

Havi turned to face her.

  • Havi: That depends. I'm looking for someone. I was told I might find her here. Maybe you know her? Muspel. Around your age. Goes by Eysa. Father's a... how shall I put this... a vainglorious fool who thinks himself a god.

Eysa shook her head with sarcasm to match Havi's.

  • Eysa: Never heard of her.

Havi turned to gesture at the lava pools.

  • Havi: Then you will not mind if I stay awhile, dip my toes in one of these soothing fire baths...
  • Eysa: I have a better idea.

Havi looked back at her and saw she pointed her spear at his head.

  • Havi: Oh!
  • Eysa: Turn around, go back from where you came. And please do mind your step.

Havi put his hand on his hips.

  • Havi: That is no way to welcome a curious outsider. Care to put that away?
  • Eysa: Why? Afraid I know how to use it?

Havi snorted contemptuously and turned to walk away.

  • Havi: I'm sure you can use it. Passably well... But then I would have to kill you.
  • Eysa: Don't worry. You won't.

The two engaged in combat.

  • Havi: Lay it by, Eysa. There is an easy way out of this.
  • Eysa: Now where is the fun in that?

They continued fighting until Havi severely wounded her, whereupon she ran into a magma pool and used it to heal herself and summon Muspel soldiers as backup.

  • Havi: That pendant. It gives her the same gift as her father.
No matter what I do, that pendant will give her life. I mustn't let up.
I need to stop Eysa before she can use her pendant.
I must overwhelm her, prevent her from healing.

After a lengthy duel, Havi emerged victorious while Eysa dropped to her knees.

  • Eysa: (labored breathing)

Eysa stood up and touched her collarbone, realizing that Havi had taken her necklace.

  • Havi: Let's keep the baubles out of it, shall we?
  • Eysa: Oh, no, the godly gloating. Smite me, I cannot bear it.
  • Havi: If I were you, I would save the tongue-wit for a more appropriate time.

Havi looked at the amulet he held in his hand.

  • Havi: I saw no such trinket on Surtr, yet he too has a problem with dying.

Havi turned away to look at the necklace more closely then pocketed it.

  • Eysa: So that was you in Eitri. What squabble had you trading blows with my father?

Havi faced her again with an angered tone.

  • Havi: He has taken my son! And now I'll give your father a taste of what he has wrought. Move. So that I may trade his child for mine.

Eysa laughed at the folly of his plan.

  • Eysa: You clearly do not know my father.

Eysa walked a few paces away, then turned to look at Havi over her shoulder, speaking of her father with bitterness.

  • Eysa: Your son... Baldr, I assume? He has something my father needs. And if that is so, Poppa would sooner see me dead than give in to your demands.

Eysa began circling Havi, but he followed her movement and rotated in turn to keep him face-to-face with her.

  • Eysa: If you want your son back, you will need something far more precious than me to barter with. Me, his own daughter, I simply will not do.

Havi drew his axe and placed its blade at her neck.

  • Havi: Then there's no longer any need for you to draw breath.

A male dwarf ran into the courtyard, interrupting the two.

  • Dwarven Captive 4: Eysa! We found it! We fou—Oh!

Havi looked at him, distracted at his interruption.

  • Havi: Found what?

A splash sounded as Eysa liquified herself into lava and used the moment to escape. He looked around and saw she was nowhere to be seen. He huffed in annoyance, then turned angrily toward the dwarf.

  • Havi: What have you found?
  • Dwarven Captive 4: Er... Eysa would not want me to say.
  • Havi: Eysa is no longer here. I am. Havi of Asgard. Lord of Frenzy. And you are in full control of my temper.
  • Dwarven Captive 4: A-a-a mural. Eysa believes it may help her gain entry to an ancient vault. It is in a cavern. That way!

The dwarf pointed south, and Havi left to visit the cave.

  • Havi: So long as Surtr lives, my son will be his prisoner. But how does one kill that which cannot be killed? If death is not his weakness, then I must find something that is.

Havi reached the cave.

  • Havi: The mural Eysa was searching for should be somewhere in this cavern. She believes there is something interesting here... I need to see what it is. I could use Loki right now. He always had a nose for treasure hunts.

Havi searched the caves and found what he was looking for.

  • Havi: Found your mural, Eysa. Let's see now...

Havi inspected the mural.

  • Havi: Elven symbols... a few of which may allude to peaks, or mountains.

Havi spotted a dwarf nearby.

  • Havi: You. Can you read this to me?
  • Dwarven Captive 5: Me? Er... I, uh, I can try... Elven runes are not something I can decipher with ease.
  • Havi: You will fare better than I, and that will have to do. Any mention of an ancient vault? A door? Secret entrance, maybe?

The dwarf pointed at the wall.

  • Dwarven Captive 5: No. Er, but I can make out this, see... two great mountains to the north... the sun and moon above...

Havi nodded.

  • Havi: That's it?
  • Dwarven Captive 5: Regrets, Æsir. We are simple diggers. Not experts of things writ long ago.
  • Havi: Not to worry. You have been a great help.

Havi pondered his findings.

  • Havi: The vault is located between two great mountains to the north. I should search there.

Outcome[edit | edit source]

Havi tracked Eysa from Gufathorp to Stór Mylna and fought a duel with her, hoping to use her to bargain for Baldr's life. Although the princess escaped, Havi learned from an elven mural that the vault he was looking for was to the north.
