Seeking Shelter was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Basim ibn Ishaq in 2020 through the Portable Animus HR-8.5, in which a vision of one of Odin's memories could be seen.
Description[edit | edit source]
Havi goes to locate the other strongholds of the Sons of Ivaldi.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
After leaving Jordber Shelter and examining the breadth of Svartalfheim that lay before him, Havi began seeking out the remaining dwarven shelters hidden from the occupying Muspel forces. He drew near to the general areas of the shelters indicated on his map by Sigrun and Halstein earlier and found his first signs of their passing.
- Havi: The shelter must be nearby.
A clue! One of their shelters must be nearby.
I should look around for any signs leading to the shelter.
As he explored, he inspected closely the signs painted on broken carts, abandoned cargo, and other fixtures in the landscape, remarking on them.
- Havi: This way will take me to the dwarves.
This points the way to a dwarven shelter.
A dwarf-mark. They must be in hiding nearby.
I must be close to a shelter.
A dwarven rune. I must be on the right track.
Dwarves have left their mark here.
The dwarves hide their paths in plain sight.
There is a shelter not far from here.
Dwarven markings. If I follow, they will lead me to a shelter.
A runic symbol. A shelter must be close.
In Gullnámar, off the path south of the dwarven statues overrun by a Jötnar curse, Havi dealt with a patrol of Muspels.
- Havi: What are they looking at? There must be something...
He found a poorly written note from one who had been inspecting the nearby dwarven marking.
Clue
- They are small and pretty,
And smells so sweetie.
If you see them you are on the right track,
They surely the entrance mark!
- Havi: I wonder what this nonsense means. A poem or a riddle?
Following the trail of dwarven signs to a deep opening nestled in the hills, Havi performed a Leap of Faith and explored the bottom, finding another group of marked barrels. He continued through the tunnel, finding a flooded cave full of blue-green crystals.
- Havi: If Baldr were here, he would surely find wonder in these crystals. He has a child's innocence, my boy. I pray he has it still, after... all of this. These dwarves... I need them, though it chafes me to admit it. Be gracious, Havi. Humble and patient.
He climbed a crystal to the upper reaches and followed them, arriving at the entrance to Grenhellir Shelter. Within the shelter, he lamented the condition of the dwarven refugees.
- Havi: Glorious dwarf-kind... reduced to this?
In Svaladal, Havi followed the signs deep into the woods and performed a Leap of Faith into a great opening buried in the trees. He landed in an underground lake and emerged to find the docks of Jordeygr Shelter before him.
While in Vangrinn, Havi followed the signs to a lake nestled in the shadow of a tall karst. Along the lake he found several dry-docked longships and some flotsam from a shipwreck, along with several signs pointing into the nearby cave. He crossed the lake and explored the cave, finding only pitch black tunnels leading to a hugr shrine.
- Havi: A hugr shrine? Just a dead-end.
He read the nearby carving.
Yggdrasil Legend
- Here lies an enshrined root of Yggdrasil, that most ancient of trees, and the nurturer of all things.
He retraced his steps outside and found the remnants of a path in disrepair leading up along the cliff face.
- Havi: How did the dwarves get all the way up here?
Atop the end of the path, overlooking the lake, he found an entrance under the mountain in the rock.
- Havi: So this is where they hide.
Sliding through the hole, he found himself within Hodda Shelter, littered with golden treasures and cups and utensils but little in the way of food.
- Havi: So much gold, so little worth.
Havi found the rear entrance near the stablehand, Drunn. However, his reception in Hodda left a bad taste in his mouth.
- Havi: The most disrespectful dwarves I have ever met.
Outcome[edit | edit source]
Havi located the other three dwarven shelters in Svartalfheim.
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
While this memory does not complete until all three shelters are discovered, the main story progresses by finding Grenhellir Shelter in central Gullnámar, and Jordeygr Shelter in Svaladal. At each of those shelters is another memory that is ultimately little more than a conversation with a named dwarven resident, resulting in new leads for Havi to follow. Hodda Shelter does not have such a conversation and is geographically the furthest from the player's starting point at Jordber Shelter. Thus, while the main story will eventually lead players to Vangrinn, it is not necessary at this particular point to journey all the way there.
