Plot synopsis
Edward Kenway stops Xiao Han from killing Sun, claiming that he needs the merchant alive because he stole something from him. Xiao Han deduces Edward is after Hendrik's sea log and Edward simultaneously realizes the man he faces holds it. With Xiao Han refusing to hand it over, the two Assassins enter a duel with their swords. They appear evenly matched until Xiao Han uses a rope dart to disarm Edward, prompting the latter to lunge at him with his Hidden Blade. Xiao Han activates his own Hidden Blade and stops Edward when the two realize they are both members of the Brotherhood.
Meanwhile, Shimazu Saito is fighting Liu Qing, trying to kill the Assassin to avenge the death of her second-in-command. Xue Yan attempts to provide cover to her fellow Assassin with her crossbow but is forced to deal with more of Sun's guards who arrive as reinforcements.
Edward and Xiao Han question what the other intends to do with Angkor's treasure, with Edward saying that he is not on an official Brotherhood assignment but rather just has a taste for adventure. He then overpowers Xiao Han and slams him to the ground, but this causes the log to fly out of Xiao Han's pocket and land near Sun. Xiao Han runs towards it but is again stopped by Edward, much to his annoyance. He declares that the Brotherhood's "great cause" will not be denied and orders Edward to stay out of his way, claiming that he will use the Piece of Eden to deliver a great boon to the Brotherhood. However, Edward believes using Isu technology for personal gain goes against everything the Assassins stand for and compares Xiao Han to the Templars.
After spotting Sun running away with the log, Xiao Han chases after him while Edward ponders what to do next. He then witnesses Liu Qing use his guandao to overpower Saito and break her sword, defeating her. Before Liu Qing can execute Saito, Edward comes to her rescue and prepares to duel the other Chinese Assassin. However, at that moment, Xiao Han calls upon both Liu Qing and Xue Yan to pursue Sun and recover the log. As Liu Qing and Xue Yan depart, Edward turns his attention to Saito, only to see her in a broken state and claiming she has no reason to live anymore.
