Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple Episode 39 is the thirty-ninth episode of Redice Studio's webtoon Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple, a sequel to Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The webtoon, written by ARC and SHYATAN and with art by Tabii, was released on 16 January 2024.

Plot synopsis[edit | edit source]

As Zheng bombards Sun's floating gambling hall with cannon fire, the remaining civilians attempt to evacuate the ship. In the confusion, Xialun Qing is accidentally pushed into the water, but she is rescued by John Young, who has stolen a gunboat. Meanwhile, Xiao Han uses a rope dart to steal back Hendrik's sea log from Edward Kenway, warning his fellow Assassin to stay out of the Chinese Brotherhood's way before leaving with Liu Qing and Xue Yan. Edward attempts to chase them but is stopped by a cannonball and returns to Shimazu Saito.

As the two attempt to escape from the sinking ship, Saito chastises Edward for losing the sea log and questions why the Chinese Assassins called him "brother". Edward tells her that, although they are members of the Brotherhood like him, they have forsaken the Creed in their blind pursuit of Angkor's treasure, which they intend to use to overthrow the Qing dynasty. He then reveals that he has already planned their escape from the ship as John arrives with his gunboat.

After jumping onto the boat, Edward informs John that he decided to recruit Saito into the Zhang Wei Union and that he lost Hendrik's sea log, while John in turn introduces him to Qing. At that moment, the group is spotted by Zheng, who recognizes Edward as the man Madam Lee marked for death. She orders her crew to sink the gunboat but is forced back by Yun Pyeong-Gyu and Rupiya, who are captaining the Fenghuang.

After one of her ships is destroyed by the Fenghuang, Zheng decides to let Edward and the others escape, but assures her crew that they will have their chance to hunt them down soon enough. Aboard the Fenghuang, Edward welcomes Saito into the Zhang Wei Union and assures her that the only course for their voyage is the one towards freedom, causing Saito to smile to herself.

The following morning, as Zheng and her crew are investigating the wreckage of Sun's gambling ship for any signs of his survival, Xiao Han, Liu Qing, and Xue Yan board her ship. The admiral points her pistol at them, only to be surprised when Xiao Han reveals the sea log sought by Madam Lee and demands an audience with her in order to discuss "business".
