Old Man on the Edge was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan in 2020 through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Description[edit | edit source]
Eivor found an old man with cargo near a cliff.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
While exploring the mountains in northern Rygjafylke, Eivor heard a loud voice calling out from a distance.
- Old Harek: Gods, grant me power to offer this sacrifice! Give me the strength to give to you!
- Eivor: What is happening up on that cliff?

Eivor approached the direction of the voice and came across a man standing next to a cliff with a load of cargo. She approached and spoke to him.
- Eivor: What is all this?
- Old Harek: My life. The fruit of my work, all gathered here, and now I lack the strength to throw it off this cliff.
- Eivor: You carried everything up here only to throw it all down?
- Old Harek: The horse did most of it. It is the only way I can send my belongings into the next world. My children will not bury it with me. They say they do not want it, but I know they will sell it once my light burns out. Will you lend me your strength? Throw everything over the cliff. The farther you throw, the better their chance of reaching the next world.
- Eivor: Is that how it works?
Eivor picked up one of the crates.
- Eivor: Why is everything packed in straw?
- Old Harek: I did not want anything to break.

Eivor threw it down the cliff and picked up another, continuing to throw it down.
- Old Harek: That contains a bow given to me by Halfdan the Black after I put an arrow under King Sigtyg's left arm.
- Eivor: That sounds like quite the shot.
Eivor picked up the last of the crates and threw them off as well.
- Old Harek: That contains a silver harpoon head I received from King Harald, for pulling Halfdan's frozen body out of ice.
- Eivor: They are a generous family.
Eivor threw down the last crate and joined Harek as he looked over the horizon. (If all crates were thrown far enough)
- Old Harek: May the gods grant you luck for your efforts.
- Eivor: I hope it is good luck.
(If some crates were not thrown far enough)
- Old Harek: You missed a few things.
- Eivor: The gods will get the idea.

- Old Harek: Thank you for your help. You did not have to do this.
- Eivor: Kind and courageous people live the best lives, but it can be a difficult path to keep.
- Old Harek: I have tried to live well. It is enough that the gods know that, even if the name Harek Gand is forgotten in Midgard.
- Eivor: So what will you do, now that this task is done?
- Old Harek: Done? That was to announce my arrival. Now, I leave this world. Enjoy your life.
Harek stepped back, preparing to run.

- Old Harek: To Asgard!
- Eivor: What! Wait!
Harek ran and jumped off the cliff to his death.
Outcome[edit | edit source]
Eivor assisted Harek in throwing his cargo off the cliffs, only to witness the old man jumping down to his death as well.
