A Beast's Burden was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Basim ibn Ishaq in 2020 through the Portable Animus HR-8.5, in which a vision of one of Odin's memories could be seen.[1]
Description[edit | edit source]
Havi saw a familiar, giant wild boar being ridden by a Jotun warrior.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
Havi came across a Jotun warrior riding a giant boar and yelling commands while he struggled to tame it.
- Jotun Warrior: Obey your master, or I'll melt you into a sword, you bastard!
- Havi: It can't be. Gullinbursti...?
The rider continued rotating through commands and insults to the giant boar construct, even striking it abusively.
- Jotun Warrior: Dwarven junk! Nothing but scrap metal that thinks it's alive!
It's a long way back to Asgard, piggy! So shut up and do as you're told!
You won't listen? Rah! Rah! You like that?!
Havi attacked the Jotun rider.
- Jotun Warrior: Tremble before my might!
Havi dodged the rider as he charged Gullinbursti towards him.
- Jotun Warrior: Yah! Run away, Æsir! You cannot defeat us both!
Havi traded blows with the rider as he charged.
- Jotun Warrior: You stand no chance against my mighty boar!
- Havi: You dare steal what is mine? You will die this day!
Havi gained the upper hand against the rider.
- Jotun Warrior: Agh! Curse you, Aesir!
- Havi: You will pay for harming Gullinbursti!
Havi killed the warrior, tearing him from the saddle and soothing the boar.
- Havi: There-there Gullinbursti. You're alright, you're alright. I'm here now... and I am in need of your aid, if you will offer it. Be calm, old friend. I am your master now.
Havi mounted Gullinbursti and they continued on his journey together.
Outcome[edit | edit source]
Havi saved and reclaimed his wild boar, Gullinbursti.
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Although the rider is a Jotun, this one is essentially a reskin of the mounted cavalry enemies first introduced in The Siege of Paris. Thus, he has the exact same moveset and tactical vulnerabilities.
As soon as the memory is completed, Gullinbursti becomes the default mount when summoned with the horse whistle. Despite being a legendary construct, he is little more than another mount skin, having the same speed and durability of any other horse or horse substitute mount—e.g. stag, wolf, or bear—and he can be changed out at any shelter with a stable.
The dialogue at the end of the memory may cut off mid-sentence, as the animation time of Havi soothing the boar and then mounting him is less time than it takes for the full line to play.
