A Brewing Storm was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.

Description

Eivor decided to rest in her room in Ravensthorpe.

Dialogue

After reporting to Randvi of Sigurd's current fate from her events in Cent, Eivor decided to rest in her bed. On that rainy night, Eivor woke up and ran to Dag, who was shouting aloud.

• Dag: Eivor! Eivor! Face me, Eivor!

Eivor went outside to meet Dag.

• Dag: Stop there, Wolf-Kissed. This ends now.
• Eivor: Dag. Turn around and walk away.
• Dag: Your habits are not my own, Eivor. I do not flee responsibility for the sake of my glory. I stand firm with my people.

Dag accusing Eivor of neglecting her duties for glory

Dag then spoke aloud for all the people of the colony to hear.

• Dag: For many months, I have stood at your side, keeping faith in Sigurd's judgment. Because I believed in him and his vision. Do as Eivor commands, he told me. And I have. Against my better judgment, I did as you have asked me. And where has that left us? Without a jarl, without a purpose, watching you chase glory around this land like a spooked hare.
• Eivor: You could have come to me in confidence, Dag. But that offer is gone.
• Dag: I have no need of it. My mind is fixed.

Dag faced the people of the colony once again.

• Dag: Hear me, all! I challenge Eivor for the leadership of this clan until Sigurd is safe home!
• Eivor: Walk away, Dag!
• Dag: No. We fight to the death.

• Eivor: I accept. We settle this now.
• Dag: Ah! A final act of courage. Very well...

• Eivor: This is madness, Dag. That I do not accept.
• Dag: This is not a question, Eivor. Come.

• Eivor: You spew nonsense, Dag. This is absurd.
• Dag: Enough!

• Dag: Let the circle be made.

As Dag and Eivor duel, Randvi called out during the fight.

• Randvi: Please. Please, both of you!

Within the battle, Dag taunted Eivor.

• Dag: Is that the best you can do?

After a brief moment of fighting, both warriors clashed their weapons and spoke to each other.

• Eivor: You walk a fool's path, Dag. This does not need to happen.
• Dag: A coward to the last. Have courage, Eivor. I will make it quick.

Dag taunted Eivor more.

• Dag: Pathetic!

Randvi shouted out again.

• Randvi: Stop!

A little more into their duel, Eivor pleaded to Dag.

• Eivor: I do not want to do this! Walk away.
• Dag: (roar)

As he roared, Dag dropped his shield as he kept roaring. Then, Dag taunted Eivor again.

• Dag: What's the matter, Eivor? Are you scared?
• Eivor: Only for what I must do.

Within the fighting, Eivor pleaded again.

• Eivor: Do you not see what you do? There is no honor in this.
• Dag: What do you know of honor that Sigurd did not teach you? You suckle at his teat and then leave him to die.

A little more fighting as Dag warned Eivor.

• Dag: You should have listened! You might have saved yourself!

As Dag's injuries grew more severe, Eivor offered to spare him.

• Eivor: I would grant you exile. Leave this place, but go with your life.
• Dag: Spare me your pity and fight.
• Eivor: So be it. You leave me no choice.

As Dag started throwing axes, Eivor still kept fighting and spoke about his choices.

• Eivor: You could have waited. You could have come with me! You're a fool, Dag. You see where it's gotten you?
• Dag: Silence!

Dag then yelled in anger at her insults.

• Dag: (yell)

Dag mortally wounded by Eivor

After immense amounts of fighting, Eivor won the duel as Dag fell.

• Dag: You... you...

As Randvi was sadden by the display, Dag tried to speak to Eivor.

• Dag: Eivor... you... you—

Before Dag could reach his axe, Eivor was spoken to by a ghostly Odin.

• Odin: If I had any pity, I would not lavish it on this poor fool.
• Eivor: He forced my hand.
• Odin: Yes. And the cost of disrespect is death. You said it yourself.

Eivor shook her head.

• Odin: All he demanded, you gave him. That should be enough, for I have no need for one so fragile in my hall of heroes.
• Eivor: He fought for what he believed in. Does that not count for something?
• Odin: Does it? You killed him all the same.

Eivor made a grim face at Odin.

• Odin: What is the true cost of disrespect? The choice lies with you.

Odin then disappeared as Eivor looked down to a dying Dag.

• Eivor: It should have not come to this, old friend.

(Give Dag his axe)(Deny Dag his axe)

Dag given his axe, allowing him to move on to Valhalla

• Eivor: Take this, and fly to Odin's hall. Whatever you sought in this life, may you find it in the next.
• Dag: (dying groan)

• Eivor: But you gave no quarter in life. And you will receive none in death.
• Dag: (whimpering)

• Eivor: Go to your homes. I will lay him to rest.

Eivor then looked up as the crowd kept staring.

• Eivor: Go to your homes!

Randvi walked closer to Eivor.

Eivor vowing to return Sigurd home

• Eivor: Dag accused me of betrayal. He accused me of breaking my oath. And this, this is the answer I gave him! Now you will hear the truth unvarnished. None, none more than me wishes for Sigurd's safe return. You know this, you know this, all of you! And I will burn the fields and dredge the rivers of Wessex to find him! That... that is my oath! That is my oath.

Few of the crowd started to walk away during her reasoning. Eivor looked to Randvi and then spoke aloud.

• Eivor: I will find Sigurd. You will not be without your jarl. This I promise.

The circle of people started to leave as Eivor tended to Dag's body. Then, it became morning as Eivor sat across Dag's burial.

• Eivor: Dag. You lived as you died, proud and defiant. I cannot begrudge you for that.

Gave Dag ValhallaDenied Dag Valhalla

• Eivor: I miss hearing you tell your stories, old friend. But I remember them well.

• Eivor: Wherever you now roam, I wish you well. I'm sorry that such a fire grew between us.

Eivor then left Dag's grave in peace. Returning to the village, she briefly spoke with Gunnar about the duel.

• Gunnar: Even when Dag was younger, he had a streak in him. Hate to see it go that way, but you did the right thing. Can't imagine what you are feeling. Anyhow... you probably need something, eh?

Hytham also extended his condolences.

• Hytham: I am sorry for what happened with Dag. It could not have been easy. May he rest in peace.

Reda also shared his opinion of Dag.

• Reda: Men like Dag litter every clan, city, and century. The prideful ones. Men who never know when just enough is still too much.

Returning to the Alliance map room to plan her next expedition, Eivor spoke with Randvi.

• Randvi: How do you feel, Eivor?
• Eivor: I... I would rather not talk about it.
• Randvi: I understand.

On occasion, Eivor would return to Dag's grave to speak with him.

• Eivor: I wonder what became of you. If anything remains of so strong a spirit.
  We think of you often, Dag.
  I do hope Sigurd knows how much he meant to you. We are beyond the time of telling of such things now.

Outcome

Eivor killed Dag in battle and decided his fate to Valhalla.
