Severing the Lines
Memory type
Main (The Siege of Portcestre)
Severing the Lines was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir 's genetic memories , relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5 .
Eivor met with Basim at Briggworth to assault the garrison.
Eivor arrived at Briggworth to meet with Basim.
Eivor: Briggworth. A forest of Saxon swords awaits within those walls of stone . I should consult with Basim. He will be nearby.
Eivor checked the bridge overlooking Briggworth and found and spoke with Basim, who was surrounded by dead soldiers.
Eivor: What have you discovered?
Basim: Briggworth swarms with guards, reinforced from the river. Word is that two of Fulke 's finest oversee such matters.
Eivor: We should kill these leaders and burn their ships. Crippled and put to panic, their men will be in no place to join Fulke at Portcestre .
Basim: Frightened men look to their own interests. A good plan.
Together, Eivor and Basim infiltrated Briggworth and began their sabotage.
Eivor and Basim found one of the commanders at the stronghold's docks. Both Eivor and Basim killed the commander.
Basim: One down, one to go. The other should be somewhere in the keep.
Eivor and Basim found one of the commanders at the stronghold's keep. Both Eivor and Basim killed the commander.
Basim: One down, one to go. The other should be near the boats.
Eivor and Basim tracked and killed the remaining commander.
(Boats not yet destroyed)
Eivor: Now the boats. We burn them to the waterline.
Basim: I am with you.
With the commanders dead, they turned their attention last to the boats at the docks, setting all four of them alight.
At the docks, Eivor and Basim burned down all the boats before eliminating the commanders.
Eivor: No more sailing for these Saxons.
Basim: Indeed.
They moved on to assassinating the two commanders.
Eivor: I have seen to one of Fulke's lackeys already. I will see to the other just as well. That and the ships in the river.
Basim: Good. Without leaders or transport, they will be no help to Portcestre.
Eivor re-infilrated Briggworth with Basim to kill the remaining commander and destroy any remaining boats.

Eivor: Fulke's lackeys are already feeding the worms. But we can burn their ships all the same.
Basim: Yes. Deny them a way to travel, and they will not trouble us at Portcestre.
Eivor re-infiltrated Briggworth with Basim to destroy any remaining boats.

Basim: I am with you.
With their work complete, Eivor and Basim reflected on her decimation of Briggworth's resources.
(Scorched Earth and Let Them Eat Ashes not complete)
Basim: Our work is done. Fulke will have no help from Briggworth now. See you back at camp.
Within the keep, Eivor found a note.
Official Scroll
Dear Men of Wessex In order to protect us Saxons from the onslaught of Dane longships, I have devised a plan to stockpile oil. Pouring oil from out bridge will send a fury of flame into thier souls forever. We must meet Hel with Hell. Fire and brimstone will save us all. Signed, Commander of the Briggworth Garrison
Eivor left Briggworth and moved on to her next task.
Eivor and Basim killed the two commanders and burned their ships.
The nested progression checks during the initial conversation with Basim will prioritize the commanders and make no reference to a pre-emptive burning of the boats. Even if both commanders and all of the boats are dealt with before talking to him, Eivor will speak as though there are boats left to burn, before the quest promptly completes itself.
Like the other two quests, the last one to be completed will have its closing words overwritten with the opening words of Storming the Walls .
