The Wayward was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Description
Eivor heard a young girl calling her horse and investigated.
Dialogue
Eivor walked up to the stone end of a fallen bridge, where she saw a young girl attempting to whistle as she called out to a horse.
- Asta: Nnngrrrr! I, the great summoner Asta, call to you, my noble steed Skinfaxi! I know you are deaf, but hear me in your soul!
- Eivor: I do not think the horse can hear you.
- Asta: That horse can't hear anything! So, how does he-- Uh, how did father do it then? The horse always comes when he summons it. Father was a good horse summoner, I'll have you know. I will rise in his stead!
Eivor spotted Skinfaxi across the river. She waded through the chest-high water and reached the other side while the girl continued trying, and failing, to whistle.
- Asta: Rnnngh! Vrrrrghh!
To me, I decree! If not your ears, may your essence hear me!
Eivor approached and mounted Skinfaxi.
Eivor rode back across the water and returned Skinfaxi to Asta.
- Asta: Hah! My summoning worked!
- Eivor: Your horse is a little unsettled but safe.
- Asta: I, Asta the Great Summoner, first of her name, thank ye.
- Eivor: Next time, summon a bridge.
- Asta: If father were still alive, he'd be proud of me. Wouldn't he, Skinfally? Wait, what did I call you earlier?
Asta laughed as she rode off into town.
- Eivor: Maybe the horse will have a better life now.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: You! You little rat! Come back with my horse!
- Asta: Uh-oh! Let's go, Skinfaxi! Follow the wind!
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Gah! Stop! Stop!
Eivor rode off with Skinfaxi.
- Asta: Hey! Where are you going? That's my horse! Stop, you thief! You dirty horse thief!
Eivor, having second thoughts on either returning or stealing a deaf horse, dismounted and slew Skinfaxi.
- Asta: Skinfaxi, no! You're a monster! Once I master the summoning arts, I will banish you!
Outcome
Eivor rescued Skinfaxi from being stranded and either returned her to Asta, only to find out that she was not the horse's true owner; claimed the horse for herself; or slew her.
Behind the scenes
If players have Eivor steal Skinfaxi, her skin model will not be available for future use on other mounts.
