I thought we wanted the same thing. This memory has been marked as incomplete. Please update the page to include the missing dialogue transcription(s) or choice(s), and then remove this template once done.
Eivor approached a group of crying children and read a journal in their midst.
Journal It's terrible! It's the worst event to happen in the days of mankind! The Gleemen have broken their bonds of friendship and composition. I heard that it was all the fault of that wicked Ostrydd! She made her way qmong their numbers and turned Cynewulf and Ysane upon each other like wild dogs.
I can only drown myself in woe and hope for more blessed music-filled days.
She also found a letter nearby.
Tattle Rag Ja,
Word is that Cynewulf ran afoul of the guards and now croons from his cell.
Someone thought they saw Kitt, but it was just some nun taking alms for the church.
Ysane's still playing venues near Lundenwic. Critics have been saying her new stuff is mushy rubbish.
Cynewulf:Truth! Truth and love have been shackled by these dogs of the regime! Justice will be served and my tale will be told! Ysane? Kitt? Anyone?
Eivor freeing Cynewulf from his cage
She freed him.
Eivor:You disagree with the terms of your captivity?
Cynewulf:If love be a crime, then yes I do! For I am only guilty of sych a boon! Me, Cynewulf of the Gleemen!
Eivor:I see. And whose wife did you bed?
Cynewulf:O, the guard captain's. And the alewife, Lugg. And Ysane's muse. But, who am I to deny women my company?
Eivor:A scoundrel and a poor friend.
Cynewulf:That may be so! But, this scoundrel will play naught but the sweetest music for his freedom. You understand? I, Cynewulf, have been freed from my bondage and am eternally in your debt.
Eivor:Make good use of your freedom then. Apologize to your friends, and stay out of trouble.
Eivor finding Kitt near St. Paul's Cathedral
Eivor then tracked down Kitt.
Kitt:God is good! God's love lingers. God has saved me from broken fingers!
Eivor:I have never seen a nun play such an instrument.
Kitt:I learned the tagelharpa from church. I used it for coin, turned away from God to a life of sin. The Gleemen we were called, the finest bards in all of Lunden. Our music moved statues to tears. But no more. The Lord demanded I return to the fold. I begged Ysane to join me, but she still toils with devil and drink. Music and dice have led her astray, she and that ... Cynewulf. All my financial woes stem from their greedy shenanigans.
Eivor:You have debts, you mean. Large enough to send you into hiding.
Kitt:How dare you imply that I hide behind my cloth from men who would break my instruments for a mere fifty silver!
(Purchase for 50 gold - "I'll buy your debt.")
Eivor:Fifty silver, I can cover. But for that sum I want to hear The Gleemen perform together, one last time.
Kitt:O, you are temptation-wrapped redemption, stranger. I have missed the dice dearly. Perhaps God has other plans...
Eivor finding Ysane outside Lunden
Eivor then tracked down the last bard, Ysane, finding her crying.
Ysane:O, Ostrydd, my Ostrydd.
Eivor:This is not the first time I've heard a skald sing through tears.
Ysane:It's my beloved Ostrydd! She loves me no more. Thus my quill stays dry, no poetry falling from its once proud beak.
Eivor:Can you only write verse when you are in love?
Ysane:Surely! I've not written a ballad about God since I was a girl. Only love moves my heart.
Eivor:Some of the best verses I have ever heard were thrown in battles of wit and rhyme, not lovesick crowing.
Ysane:O? I have never seen such a battle, please enlighten me.
Eivor:In our battles, for glory and blood we do sing, and give praise to the high one, for Odin is king. And we beg that the High One will give us his nod, that we someday might dine alongside our War God.
Ysane:Yes, yes, I see the bricks of this verse. Fight... night... brawl... Valhall... No, Odin's hall. Get me my quill!
Eivor:My breakfast was nothing but curds and some whey. 'Tis a bit bland but keeps hunger away.
Ysane:Poetry about food! I quite like that, yes! Gooseberries... make merry? No, no... hm.
Eivor:I should like to hear what music you write. Will you perform it somewhere?
Ysane:If I can get Cynewulf's bastardly face to help me with this meter. But you will have my thanks in this performance regardless.
With all three Gleemen taken care of, Eivor made her way back towards the square.
Eivor:Ysane, Kitt, and Cynewulf. That is all The Gleemen. Now we will see if they play the square.
Eivor returned to the square, finding the children cheering for the bards.
Anglo-Saxon Child:I love you, Cynewulf!
Anglo-Saxon Child:Ysane!
Norse Man:This new material doesn't hold a flame to the intensity of Ysane's older work.
The Gleeman reunited and performing
Cynewulf:Come one, come all! Friends! Fans! Lovers! You demanded our reunion, and thus, God has gifted our merry trio with just an assembly!
Ysane:With fresh poems bestowed on me by a new muse. One with the heart of a warrior and eyes of frost.
Kitt:An, tu, thrio. (One, two, three.)
Ysane:Hear me, friends and fighters, come one and come all. May we meet up once more inside Odin's Great Hall!
Ysane:For my breakfast there's bread, eggs and lox on my plate! See this bounty I've got? Life in Lunden is great.
After the performance, Eivor was gifted a written copy of Ysane's poem as she took her leave of the reunited Gleemen.
