A Distorted Dream was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan in 2020 through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Dialogue
Valka and a red-haired woman walked up to Eivor. The unknown woman began talking almost immediately.
- Unknown Woman: Oh, it's you! Valka said we would meet, but I can hardly believe the great Eivor is fated to save my little Isle of Skye!
She dipped her head in a bow as Valka gestured to her for Eivor.
- Valka: Edyt is an old friend and a seer. She contacted me for advice. Her people are plagued by nightmares to the point madness.
Eivor looked over Edyt, appraising the seer before her.
- Eivor: I wasn't aware people settled on the Isle of Skye.
- Edyt: There are small settlements, but it is a place of passage for many, making it perfect for dreams to wreck havok.
Edyt stared distantly as she remembered then began talking, slowly at first before rapidly speeding up as the memories came.
- Edyt: Until now, I've mostly been deciphering whether my cousin's feasting on feathers in her dreams means she should marry a farmer or a baker.
Eivor blinked and frowned at the sudden flurry of words, then looked to Valka for explaination. When none came, she spoke to Edyt.
- Eivor: You've lost me again.
Valka looked at Edyt.
- Valka: Edyt needs your help. And it's not just her people being affected.
She returned her gaze to Eivor.
- Valka: As someone deeply in tune with the spirit realm, I have also begun to lose sleep. I fear it may spread to out settlement soon.
Eivor chuckled lightly.
- Eivor: I will investigate, but it is not as if I have experience chasing away bad dreams.
- Valka: There is more. You're not going to like this, Eivor, but I believe somehow... Randvi is involved. Perhaps even responsible.
- Eivor: Valka, you know I trust your wisdom, but... Randvi is my friend. How could she threaten the settlement like this?
- Valka: Ever since the nightmares stared, I began asking the spirits for clarity and a vision came to me.
Valka took a deep breath to collect her thoughts.
- Valka: Though it was cloudy, I know what I saw. You will find Randvi amidst a scene of death on Skye Island. The two of you will fight before you're forced to part ways forever.
Eivor laughed loudly at the absurdity of Valka's vision.
- Eivor: (laughing) Valka, you've really gone mad this time. Randvi would never do something like this. Nor could she! She's always here!
- Valka: Believe it or don't, it is your choice. The only way you'll find the truth and stop the nightmares from plaguing the settlement is if you fo the Skye Island. I must stend to my duties, but Edyt can take you when you're ready.
Eivor sailed to the Isle of Skye, met Kassandra and immediately began a duel.
- Kassandra: You favor other weapons, too. Where'd you get that blade?
- Eivor: I take it you're one of the Hidden Ones?
- Kassandra: (laughs) Not exactly. But I admire their work. I'm not a Hidden One, but I have friends that are. And often, my goals align with theirs. I assume the same is true for you?
- Eivor: Yes. I've made friends with the Hidden Ones and I agree with their goals. Perhaps we might have more in common than we thought.
The two women fought a group of corrupted civilians and cultists.
- Eivor: They've been driven to madness. It's just nonsense. Watch out! Better take them out before they take us down, then.
- Skye Cultist: (The blood of the god in your veins is not meant to walk these lands, mercenary! The Apple of Eden belongs to another, mercenary.
The Apple activated.
- Kassandra: It's an illusion caused by the artifact.
...
- Kassandra: I've torn many of those masks from the faces of cultists. I wouldn't be here now if it weren't for them.
Eivor looked at the mask.
- Eivor: That mask looks unique.
Eivor thought.
- Eivor: It really seemed like one of these guys was talking to directly to you in the fight.
...
- Kassandra: You have no idea what you'd be dealing with. You need my help.
- Eivor: In the first ambush, those men seemed to know you. Now, they're speaking your language! How stupid do you think I am? These aren't coincidences!
...
- Kassandra: After your big success with the rocks, why don't you guide us this time?
- Kassandra: There are five triangles. And one pyramid. We're going to need five shards—keys—to place on this pedestal. That should open...
...
- Eivor: That's all the shards. Time to unlock the temple and end the nightmares.
- Kassandra: That's it? There's nothing.
- Eivor: Of course, you don't see it! You're missing Odin's sight, after all
- Kassandra: Odin's sight... You must come from an interesting lineage. Who might your father be?
...
Kassandra sat on a tree stump.
- Kassandra: The artifact is an object of great power left here by... old gods. Left on the island, it could wreck havok not on the world.
- Eivor: Why aren't we under whatever spell or curse this artifact seems to have placed over everyone else?
Kassandra spread her hands.
- Kassandra: It is difficult to explain, but artifacts like this can affect people differently. Many are Corrupted by them.
Kassandra looked at Eivor and raised an eyebrow.
- Kassandra: Perhaps we are of a similar strength. But even if we're not having nightmares, we should still be wary of its power.
- Eivor: If this artifact is ancient and was left here who knows how long ago, why is it suddenly causing problems now?
- Kassandra: Loki got bored?
Eivor frowned and shook her head, unamused at Kassandra's attempt at humor. Kassandra rolled her eyes.
- Kassandra: So serious. Truthfully, I'm not sure. These artifacts can be activated. Maybe someone tampered with it.
Kassandra stared at the ground sternly as she recalled her own experiences in the far distant past.
- Kassandra: After all, many are drawn to its powers. It tempts them
- Eivor: How exactly are you planning to track it down?
- Kassandra: Leave that to me. Finding these artifacts has been my calling for some time now. I've developed a knack for tracking them down. With the auror gone, it should be even easier to find.
(Leave – "Let's go find it then.")
- Eivor: Let's not waste time. What's our next move?
- Kassandra: Now that the smog is gone, I should be able to better track the artifact's location.
Kassandra stood up and began walking towards a cave entrance.
- Kassandra: Before that, though, I'm going to take another look around the church. See what I can learn of these foreign lands. Meet me in Tobhta?
Eivor frowned at Kassandra's assuredness.
- Eivor: It'll take more than studying one church to become familiar with this island. But fine. We'll meet again soon.

- Kassandra: (laughs) No, it's a Greek swear word. It's ma-lá-ka!
...
- Kassandra: I already told you, the artifact has made them go mad.
Kassandra began to walk away further into the temple.
Kassandra stopped, tensed herself, and turned around frustrated.
- Kassandra: Eivor, when are you going to see that I'm here to help?
...
- Kassandra: No, you're lying, I'm sure of it.
- Eivor: No, that's all the more reason for me to remove it. You've done enough. I can't trust you, Kassandra.
- Kassandra: Eivor, please! The powers of this artifact are unlike anything you've seen!
- Eivor: I already have the other keys. And if these men are after you, it'll be even easier for me to continue by myself.
Behind the scenes
This memory and its accompanying arc are only accessable after players have both completed the quest "A Wise Friend" where Valka arrives in Ravensthorpe and reached Settlement Level 4.
