The Banshee was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan in 2020 through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.[1]

Eivor came across a grieving man talking to himself and approached him.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
As Eivor traveled the path between Wulfaswic and Maeldun in southeast Essexe, she heard a distinct wailing coming some Roman ruins off the road.
Eivor entered the ruins to investigated and overheard a man whimpering to himself.
- Grieving Man: Your skin was pale as midnight mist. Hair threaded with dew. Eyes glassy, limpid, accusing. Still so beautiful, so pure.
Eivor spoke to the man.
- Grieving Man: Please, my love, you must forgive me. I cannot sleep, I cannot eat.
- Eivor: Who do you speak to? There is no one here.
- Grieving Man: We are together now, wife. You will never leave my side. Whispering in my ear like a moth's wings.
Eivor thought to herself.
- Eivor: Where is that wailing coming from? It is as if the walls are crying in anguish. This man is haunted by some terrible deed.
After carefully observing her surroundings, she determined the noise came from the wind whistling through some wooden boards in the wall above. She took out a bow and loosed an arrow, splintering the boards. The noise vanished.
- Grieving Man: You! You blew upon the threads and they severed. She is gone, dust and bones, dust and bones.
He drew a dagger and attacked Eivor.
- Eivor: You have done some mischief here. I can smell the guilt with the rotting flesh.
- Grieving Man: No, no! What have you done? Her sobs, her screams. I can no longer hear her call to me!
Eivor slew the man and found a note on his body.
Mad Ramblings
