Art-Scop was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan in 2020 through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Eivor heard a bard singing a song and approached him.
Eivor heard a bard singing.
- Berk the Bard: Heroes aplenty, warriors so many, but most walk about with heads that are empty. Would a soul in these lands, pay heed to a man, who wanders this world without a clan? Hey! You! My eyes and soul do not deceive me! You are the Wolf-Kissed, are you not? Come, come!
She approached him.
- Eivor: Greetings, bard.
- Berk the Bard: That face, that scowl... yes, indeed, you must be the Wolf-Kissed! Your fame and generosity are well-known to me!
- Eivor: You have a flatterer's tongue, bard. But how do you know me?
- Berk the Bard: The deeds of the great are a bard's stock in trade. The brave are wealthy, the wealthy are brave. So it goes. How about it, Eivor the Wanderer? Part with a queen's ransom and live on in immortal song?
- Eivor: Silver comes and silver goes, but the fame of the great endures.
- Berk the Bard: Both wise and generous! Truly you are history's mightiest champion. Now, hold tight while my muse inspires me.
He began singing.
- Berk the Bard: From beyond the whale-roads, from history unknown,
did the Norse take a stand, and now all must atone.
Now comes Eivor of the Ravens, with the sun for eyes,
trailing a river of blood, enough to paint the skies!
Succumb to your fate with a kiss, a blade to your throat, the wolf's fangs to your shins.
For the one blessing and the one curse, is to meet the Wolf-Kissed!
- Eivor: Your kennings are weak. However, you make up for it with your clever tongue.
- Berk the Bard: 'Tis the tale of a bard such as I! We give and give and get nothing back. So it goes. Farewell, generous champion!
- Eivor: I heard you sing, bard. Your songs aren't worth a copper bit.
- Berk the Bard: Frugal and rude! You're even less fun than you look.
He began singing.
- Berk the Bard: There was a cheap little Norse. Stinking of ale,
with a face like a horse, and a pony for a tail.
What was the name of this hideous boar?
To speak it brings shame, but it's Eivor!
Eivor! Always second, never the first.
Made to do a master's bidding, a servant cursed!
Alas ends the tale of Eivor the Boar,
the Cheap, the Second! Ei-ei-ei-vor! Oink!
- Eivor: I could kill you with a single swing, but I'd rather not stain my weapon.
- Berk the Bard: I merely sung the truth! Your brutish threats hold no power over a bard like me.
- Eivor: Let me find a fuller purse someday, and perhaps I shall return.
- Berk the Bard: The world weeps at its loss! Go forth and plunder, so that all may hear your praises properly sung."
Eventually, Eivor returned to the bard.
- Eivor: Greetings, bard.
- Berk the Bard: Ah, Eivor of the Ravens! Have you changed your mind about living forever in song? Bit of coin for a soulful tune?
(returns to choices)
Nearby, Eivor found a note written by the bard.
A Bard's Lament
- O, yet another day! What a sunny day!
O, the birds are tweeting, and more people I am meeting!
So I sing another happy song.
Another day comes, and o, the rain triumphs!
The frogs are croaking, and I am still boasting!
Of others in a happy song.
But for all that I sing, of kings and their sins,
My song remains unsung, and my purse still lacks a win.
Eivor either paid Berk and listened to his song of praise or refused to donate and heard a song of insults.
