The False Ealdormancy was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.[1]
Description
Eivor came across a man being mistakenly abducted by an Mercian soldier while on her way to search for Hunwald at Ealdorman's Overlook.
Dialogue
After asking Abbess Acha for the whereabouts of Hunwald, Eivor departed Lincoln, following the road north to a tall old tree in the distance. At an intersection, she encountered a Anglo-Saxon soldier with a another Anglo-Saxon man tied up on his horse. The soldier rode along the road with her.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: You have the wrong man! I've never heard of a Hunwald. I can't even properly say the name! Is it Hunwald or Honwald?
The soldier ignored him, and his captive went on pleading.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Please! This is a mistake. I've told you, my name is not Hunwald. It's Roderick!
- Anglo-Saxon Soldier: And I've told you... to shut your flappers!
The captive cried for help.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Someone help! They mean to hang me for something I did not do!
Eivor shot the soldier off his horse with her bow. The soldier got up from the ground to confront his assailant, brandishing his flail.
- Anglo-Saxon Soldier: They said a Dane would likely follow close by, and lo and behold.
The soldier tried to fight off Eivor.
- Anglo-Saxon Soldier: Begone! This prisoner comes with me!
The two continued to trade blows.
- Anglo-Saxon Soldier: What concern is this to you, heathen?
- Eivor: That is not Hunwald.
- Anglo-Saxon Soldier: Why don't you let us decide?
Eivor killed the soldier.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Untie me, quickly!
Eivor unbound the prisoner's ropes.
- Eivor: Seems there's a bounty out on Hunwald.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: He's ruffled some feathers, that much is clear. You know him?
- Eivor: I do.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Then the Lord truly is watching over me.
- Eivor: Right place, right time.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Thanks for saving my neck, stranger. I pray I can return the favor someday.
Outcome
Eivor killed the Mercian soldier and rescued the falsely accused man Roderick.
Behind the scenes
"The False Ealdormancy" is a world event in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla that activates during the main story mission "Salve for a Fresh Wound". While the player is on the way from Lincoln to Ealdorman's Overlook to find Hunwald, the Anglo-Saxon soldier with the kidnapped Roderick will spawn on a separate road merging into the road from Lincoln. Roderick will endlessly cycle between his three lines until Eivor intervenes. In addition, the soldier has no real destination. Until attacked, he is scripted to make endless and randomized rounds along the roads in the area, even making u-turns at intersections.
