Bridges of Oppression was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Description
Eivor heard a blind man beneath the bridge cry for help.
Dialogue
Eivor came upon an injured blind man on a wooden platform beneath a bridge.
- Chad: It cannot end like this. Is ... is someone there? Hello? Please, anyone?
- Eivor: What happened to you, stranger?
- Chad: Burk, the man I work for. He did this to me, that evil man! I was simply doing a round of checks on our last shipment when he accused me of theft! Me! Theft! Please, bring me up to the bridge. I need some treatment, some medicine.
Eivor picked up the man and carried him up the bridge.
- Burk: There you are, Chad. About time you showed your face ... or what's left of it!
- Chad: Burk? No! No! Get away from me!
Burk approached, bracketed by two other men.
- Burk: Come along, Chad. We still have work to do.
- Chad: Work? You still want me to work? I can't even see my own hands, you heartless bastard!
- Eivor: He says you blinded him.
- Burk: Aye, that I did. What is a leader to do when his men can't take their eyes off of his treasure, even after several warnings?
- Chad: I ... I was not looking! You stabbed my eyes out!
Burk slapped Chad.
- Burk: Quiet now, Chad. Come, hand him over to me.
One of the men working for Burk moved to carry Chad.
- Burk: Do your best to follow me, Chad.
- Chad: Just kill me instead.
Eivor killed the two men working for Burk.
- Chad: Thank you, stranger. I thought my fate was sealed.
Outcome
Eivor helped Chad up to the bridge. When the people who blinded him took him away, Eivor killed them and rescued him a second time.
