War of the Collectors was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.

Description

Eivor came across a man discussing statues.

Dialogue

Eivor travelled to Lunden and arrived at Maximilian's house, where she found a note by the door.

Business Note
You have come to the domain of Maximilian of Londonium, they city's premiere collector of ancient treasures (despite what the deluded 'Octavian' claims.)

I will return to my villa by the dusk of the morrow. All inquiries can be left in the post box.

Eivor left to wait for Maximilian to return. The next day, she revisited his museum and found him berating a woman.

• Maximilian: If I find one crack— That statue is as fragile as the rest of my collection and costs more than the hovel you call a home!
• Anglo-Saxon Woman: Just a clay man with his cock out, ya nutter.

Eivor approached Maximilian.

• Eivor: I have a friend who needs that little Roman man you have. Octavian of Lunden.
• Maximilian: I've a guess who your friend is, and no. Osbert cannot have his greasy pedestrian fingers on something so exquisite.
• Eivor: Osbert?

Maximilian chuckled in glee.

• Maximilian: O-ho, that is delicious. Yes, Osbert. A name fit for a poor failure. It'll cost a cow's weight in silver to get it in his hands.

(5 Charisma) It's coming with me.Take your money (130 silver)I'll be back for it.

• Eivor: I'll give you the filthy silver.
• Maximilian: O-o, that is ... thank you. Well. I should hope so! You may take the legionnaire.

Maximilian led Eivor inside the museum, unlocking the door. Eivor retrieved the statuette.

• Eivor: Heh, I'll have to take this back to Osbert.

• Eivor: I'm not leaving Lunden without that sculpture.
• Maximilian: Then you'll just have to return with more coin, Dane.

Maximilian turned away as Eivor thought to herself.

• Eivor: I need to keep Maximilian distracted and out of the way if I am to steal the statue.

Eivor left Maximilain, but returned later hoping he had forgotten their conversation.

• Maximilian: Crawling back for the legionnaire, I see.

Stymied, Eivor left Maximilian again and saw two girls standing at the street corner beside the museum.

• Norse Child: Odd jobs for coin! Odd jobs for coin!

Eivor walked up and spoke to the child.

• Eivor: I have an odd job, and can pay you coin. I can pay you even more coin to not ask questions
• Norse Child: You sound like my father. What do you need? If you try to chop me up to bits, I'll scream.
• Eivor: I just need you to keep a man busy while I take back something he stole from me.
• Norse Child: If you pay up front then, deal. But, we need a signal. For if he's coming, and for when you're all clear. I'll make this noise, caw-caw, if he's coming your way. And you make it when you've got the thing.
• Eivor: This noise? Ca-caw!
• Norse Child: Close enough.

I'll pay your fee (65 coin)Never mind

Eivor paid the child and walked back to the museum as the girl followed closely behind. Coming to Maximilian standing outside his door, Eivor waited on the other side of the street and watched as the girl talked to the curator.

• Norse Child: Greetings, lord. I 'heard you buy things the giants left behind.
• Maximilian: Romans, yes, but go on.
• Norse Child: Ja. Well, my father, he found a great deal of these things by our house. Coins and heads 'n' stuff.

The girl ran off down the street and around the corner with Maximilian following at a brisk pace, lost in his excitement at the possibility of procuring more artifacts.

• Maximilian: He's found actual busts? What level of damage? Have you found any Emperors? Which ones?

With Maximilian distracted, Eivor walked up to a stool beside the veranda near his front door and stole his house key.

• Norse Child: There's one with curly hair and a big nose.

Eivor unlocked Maximilian's front door, and the heavy lock fell to the ground with a loud clang.

• Maximilain: What was that noise?

Hoping to keep Maximilian preoccupied, the girl continued talking. Eivor entered the museum and pocketed the figurine from its location on a desk.

• Eivor: Heh, I'll have to take this back to Osbert.

Before leaving, she read a note on a desk on the other side of the room.

Maximilian's Journal
Osbert was notably absent from the Forum Assembly. For once, I was able to discuss my theses without his foul stench invading my nose. Perhaps the ordeal with the helmet has finally taught him that only men of culture can become exalted by a love of Rome.

• Norse Child: There's one with a chin like a brick. There's a lady with a wreath around her head.
• Maximilian: Hang on. I must inspect.

Eivor exited the museum and ran in the opposite direction down the street.

• Eivor: Argh... Ca-caw! Ca-caw!
• Maximilian: Enough babbling, someone is in my home!

Furious at having been tricked, Maximilian rounded the corner as the girl signaled to Eivor.

• Norse Child: Run! Caw-caw! Caw-caw-caw!

Sufficiently warned in time, Eivor watched from across the street as the curator ran into his house and closed the door. With Maximilain away, Eivor found the girl in the museum's backyard and spoke to her again.

• Eivor: Great work. Try to keep out of trouble.
• Norse Child: I don't make promises I can't keep. But, you paid me in full, so I won't break your knees.

Eivor returned to Maximilian's house and opened the door, where she saw him kneeling and weeping at the desk where the statue had been placed. Pretending as though she had not just stolen the statue moments ago, she spoke to him.

• Maximilian: What are you doing! Get out of my house!

Eivor left Maximilian to his misery.

Outcome

Eivor obtained the man's statue by buying it, convincing him to give it, or by stealing it.

• War of the Collectors is only available after starting A Rivalry for the Ages.
