The Farewell Meow was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Description
Eivor found a sobbing woman over a grave and decided to try and help.
Dialogue
Eivor heard a woman crying and went to find her.
- Anglo-Saxon Woman 1: (sad sniffling) How do I get through another night without you?
Eivor spoke with her.
- Eivor: Those are the cries of a broken heart. Who died?
- Anglo-Saxon Woman 1: My beloved cat, Sphinxy. And please, do not be so crass. Sphinxy has simply...passed on. She is in God's hands.
- Eivor: Nothing hurts quite like a fresh wound. But in time, it will heal and life will return to normal.
- Anglo-Saxon Woman 1: If only. Instead, I find myself missing her more and more with each passing winter.
- Eivor: How long ago did Sphinxy pass on?
- Anglo-Saxon Woman 1: Eleven years ago tomorrow. A long time, I know.
- Eivor: A little. Have you thought about honoring Sphinxy with a shrine? It is no burial, but it may ease your grief.
- Anglo-Saxon Woman 1: I am halfway there, but I cannot bring myself to sort through her things. I simply do not have the strength.
- Eivor: You alone must find the strength, lest you spend the next decade as you are now.
- Anglo-Saxon Woman 1: True words. I shall try.
- Eivor: Still mourning, hmmm?
- Eivor: What else can I do? I do not have it in me to fetch what remains of my poor Sphinxy. Her shrine will forever be incomplete.
- Eivor: I will help you. We will build Sphinxy a shrine together. Where should I start?
- Anglo-Saxon Woman 1: My home. It's where she...she...
Ealwyn gave Eivor a key as she started crying again. Eivor went into the house and found some of Sphinxy's belongings. Eivor also found a page atop Ealwyn's bed.
- Ealwyn's Journal
The Family has grown! Sphinxy has finally given birth to a litter of kittens, all healthy, all resembling their beautiful mother.
I will leave them to sup on her milk for a few days, and in the meantime think of what to name them all. O, I am so overjoyed!
- Eivor: I have found some of Sphinxy's belongings.
- Anglo-Saxon Woman 1: You have? O, wonderful! Would you bring them to the shrine just over there, beneath the shrub?
Eivor placed the items atop Sphinxy's grave.
- Eivor: It is done. A shrine dedicated to Sphinxy, whenever you care to pay your respects. And a home you can return to again. It may take some getting used to without Sphinxy, but her children need you.
- Eivor: And here I thought all Danes were ruthless plunderers. Murderers! You have a soul that would grace the heavens. Like my Sphinxy. Lord light your way.
Outcome
Eivor helped Ealwyn build a shrine for Sphinxy.
