Durendal was the legendary personal short sword used by the Frankish paladin Roland. It was rumored to be indestructible, capable of effortlessly splitting boulders, and some of the metal that made up its blade would later be used to forge Joyeuse, the fabled sword wielded by King Charlemagne.[1]
In 886, the Viking jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan found and claimed the weapon for herself while aiding Sigfred's efforts in laying siege to Paris.[1]

Behind the scenes
Durendal was introduced in the 2021 expansion The Siege of Paris for Assassin's Creed: Valhalla as an unlockable weapon that can be found by Eivor. Although its description in the inventory states that the sword is allegedly indestructible and capable of cutting through boulders, it presents no special abilities during gameplay.
When Durendal returned in the Assassin's Creed Roleplaying Game, it was classified as a Sword of Eden alongside the likes of Excalibur and the Sword of Damokles, despite no previous Assassin's Creed media indicating that it had been built by the Isu. It is currently unknown if this is an error or a retcon.
