This article is about the Sword of Eden used in 5th century BCE Greece. For other uses, see Harpe of Perseus.

The Harpe of Perseus was a sword claimed to have belonged to Perseus, the mythical Greek hero who killed Medusa and later founded Mycenae. It had physical properties similar to other Isu artifacts such as the Sword of Damokles and the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus.

This particular sword was used by various incarnations of the Writhing Dread, a Gorgon created by the Isu as part of the Olympos Project. By the Peloponnesian War, the sword was held by Ligeia, the latest individual turned into the incarnation of Medusa. After the misthios Kassandra killed her, she claimed the sword for herself.^[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

The design of the sword is based on the bronze sculpture Perseus with the Head of Medusa by Renaissance artist Benvenuto Cellini. Notably the weapon in that work is not actually a harpe.

Datamined content shows that this weapon's earlier name was the "Sword of the Slitherer" with the description "The keen edge on this blade has been through many a serpent's neck".

This weapon may have been the Sword of Eden used by Perseus to kill Ketos and save Andromeda due to the timing surrounding when he obtained it, though this is purely speculation. If it is indeed the same blade, it is as yet unknown how the Writhing Dread took possession of the weapon before it somehow reached Ligeia's hands.
