Jozef Gabčík

Jozef Gabčík (1912 – 1942) was a Slovak soldier in the Czechoslovak Army, active during World War II. In 1942, Gabčík and his comrade Jan Kubiš were tasked with assassinating the SS Obergruppenführer and Einsatzgruppen's commander Reinhard Heydrich in Prague. Although they managed to kill their mark, their group was discovered two weeks later and Gabčík took poison to avoid capture after a fierce gun fight.
