Gamo Morinari:This does not tally with the census. Some of those peasant rats must be hiding their swords. No, no, this won't do. If they have the means to rise up, they will. Steel. I must have more steel
Two of the ashigaru stood before a civilian, one berating him.
Ashigaru Spearman 1:What happened here?
Ashigaru Spearman 2:What do you think? He tried to take on Lord Morinari. It always ends the same way.
Naoe attacked Morinari and his retinue.
Gamo Morinari:You! Not a step further. Who are you?
Yasuke confronted and eliminated Morinari and his retinue.
Yasuke:So ends the sword hunt.
Naoe and Yasuke found a note nearby.
Recruiting Gamo Yoshimitsu
My scouts tell me that Gamo Yoshimitsu serves as bodyguard to another lord in Omi. Why he demeans himself like this, I do not know. But he still retains lands and a standing force of troops. Should I move against Ujisato, I will need Yoshimitsu on my side.
He aspires, in his simple, loyal way, to prove himself the image of a noble samurai... thus is he easily manipulated. Challenge him, and he will gladly fight to the death. But remind him of his proud lineage, appeal to his sense of honor, and he can be brought over to one's side.
Naoe and Yasuke traveled to Ōtsu, where they overheard two women talking about the daikan.
Woman 1:The trees in the daikan's estate are so lush, a fly would not fit through the foliage.
Woman 2:Must be something in the soil. Such fertile land.
They passed by a woman and a man outside the daikan's residence.
Man:Isshiki Mansaku think he's too good for us now. He won't even see us, much less share his riches.
Woman 3:Can you believe he used to wait outside our doors and under our latrines to collect waste for sale?
Man:Now he's ordering us to pay our taxes in waste. Imagine!
Naoe examined the front gate of the residence.
Naoe:Not even Yasuke could break that gate down. I should find another way in.
Yasuke examined the front gate of the residence.
Yasuke:That gate is too tough to break down, even for me. There must be another way in.
On another side of the residence outskirts, they eavesdropped on two fieldworkers.
Fieldworker 1:The daikan was once lowlier than us. What sort of riches did he earn from selling waste?
Fieldworker 2:He spent it all on keeping people out. That huge gate is the only way in and it's always guarded.
Fieldworker 1:I have heard there is an opening around back.
Naoe and Yasuke headed further down the road, where they overheard a conversation between two children.
Child 1:Eugh, that smell! What's the daikan keeping in there?
Child 2:Eeh, is it coming from the house, or is it coming from you? (giggles)
Child 1:Hey!
Having learned of an opening at the back of the residence, Naoe and Yasuke headed there and found a way in undetected. The two found the daikan walking around the premises and assassinated him when he was alone.
Naoe:That was one dirty daikan. Good riddance.
Yasuke:A dirty business. But it has been cleaned up.
Naoe and Yasuke traveled to Kyoto in Yamashiro to hunt their third target, Ise Asuka, otherwise known as The Concubine. They found their target either inside a house or before a crowd, including ashigaru guards, on a stage at a Noh theater southeast of Honnō-ji.
Naoe walked in front of the crowd, toward Asuka.
Woman 4: (tuts)
Man 2:You're blocking my view! The play is about to start.
Naoe:Sorry.
Naoe confronted Asuka.
Ashigaru Spearman 3:Protect the Concubine! Earn your pay!
Ise Asuka:I will gut you!
Naoe:No matter where the fox runs, the grass will be pushed aside and it will be hunted down. Your true figure is shown, Ise Asuka.
Ise Asuka:How did you find me?
Naoe fought and killed Ise Asuka.
Naoe:Three of the corrupt daikan are dead. I must finish the rest.
Yasuke walked in front of the crowd, toward Asuka.
Woman 4: (tuts)
Man 2:You're blocking my view! The play is about to start.
Yasuke:My apologies.
Yasuke confronted Asuka.
Ashigaru Spearman 3:Protect the Concubine! Earn your pay!
Ise Asuka:I will gut you!
Yasuke:No matter where the fox runs, the grass will be pushed aside and it will be hunted down. Your true figure is shown, Ise Asuka.
Ise Asuka:How did you find me?
Yasuke fought and killed Ise Asuka.
Yasuke:Almost half of the corrupt daikan dealt with. On to the next. I must not let up now.
In search of the daikan known as The Hedonist, Naoe and Yasuke traveled to the Outer Farmlands west of Ōmizo, where they came across a group of children resting during farming work.
Moe:"Moe, carry that basket!" "Moe, get the plow!" I don't want to farm rice anymore, I want to play!
Child 3:Be strong, Moe. The Oda are gone. We can only rely on ourselves now.
The two them reached the north entrance to Omizo, where they overheard two fieldworkers.
Fieldworker 3:Water. Please. I can't go on.
Fieldworker 4:Get up! If the daikan's men see you like this, it's over for both of us!
They also found a fieldworker pleading with one of the daikan's guard.
Ashigaru Spearman 4:If the daikan wants 5000koku, then the daikan gets 5000 koku. Understand?
Fieldworker 5:But we don't even have enough land in the domain to produce that rice!
Ashigaru Spearman 4:Is that my problem, or yours? Maybe if you spent as much time tilling as you did yapping, you'd get it done.
Naoe and Yasuke traveled to the daikan's residence north of Ōmizo Castle, finding it heavily guarded as expected. The two managed to enter the estate and overheard the daikan flirting with a woman.
Naoe:The daikan Okudaira Toshizo is dead. The fieldworkers will no longer have to suffer for his selfishness.
Yasuke:So falls the daikan Okudaira Toshizo. No longer will the fieldworkers bear the cost of his neglect.
Inside the house, they also looted a letter addressed to Toshizo.
Of Utmost Urgency
Lord Toshizo,
Please write to me when you can. Many seasons have passed with no word from you, and your fief is crumbling to ruin. Starvation has decimated generations of families; others have protested the rice levies have been crushed by your samurai.
Please, lord. Have you received the letters I sent you? You must turn your attention back to the realm. Please.
Your advisor,
– Tamakichi
While on Chikubushima island in pursuit of the Shinbakufu member known as "The Wheel", Naoe and Yasuke found Izumi Bunzo, The Hoarder, outside the Hogonji Temple, after he had been denied a meeting with the Wheel. They approached him.
Izumi Bunzo:The journey from Kyoto was long and arduous. But no matter. Once the Wheel has seen the wealth I have amassed for the Shinbakufu, my standing is sure to increase.
Naoe confronted Bunzo.
Izumi Bunzo:No, no please! I have riches. I can give you anything you want, just name the price!
Naoe:You will pay for your greed with your life.
Yasuke confronted Bunzo.
Izumi Bunzo:No, no please! I have riches. I can give you anything you want, just name the price!
Yasuke:You will pay for your greed with your life.
