Stolen Hearts was a virtual representation of one of Fujibayashi Naoe's genetic memories, relived through the Animus EGO.

Description

Naoe travels to Kiyomizudera Temple to meet with Gennojo.

Dialogue

Naoe arrived at the footsteps of the temple but did not see Gennojo around.

• Naoe: Odd. This is where Gennojo said to meet him. So where is he?

She looked at the pool blood on the right of the stairs.

• Naoe: Blood. There was a fight here.

Naoe went up the stairs and spoke to the man with a broom.

• Naoe: Did you see a boy waiting here?
• Man: I-I saw nothing!

Naoe went back down the steps and spoke to a woman standing near the bridge.

• Naoe: I was supposed to meet a boy here, but it looks like there was some sort of fight.
• Woman: I shouldn't be seen talking to you. But... there was a boy. He spat at two samurai. They beat him and they carried him away.
• Naoe: Did they say where they were taking him?
• Woman: A small village north of Kiyomizu Temple. That's all I know.
• Naoe: Thank you.

Naoe headed north of the temple and found a trail of blood in the village. She followed the trail and found a pair of samurai with a tied up Gennojo.

• Naoe: Oh no.
• Samurai Spearman: Tatsugoro has wanted this one's head for a long time.
• Samurai: That thief's mouth is despicable. At least let me cut out his tongue.
• Samurai Spearman: Tatsugoro will have questions. The prisoner will need his tongue to answer.

Naoe attacked and killed the two samurai before tending to Gennojo.

• Naoe: Gennojo? Gennojo!

Naoe helped freed him from his binds.

• Gennojo: You just couldn't stay away from me, could you? (laughs, coughs)
• Naoe: You're right. I couldn't stay away. Not when there are hungry villagers in desperate need of rice.
• Gennojo: (laughs) You should leave me here. I'm not worth the trouble.
• Naoe: Shut up.

After some time, Naoe brought Gennojo back to his home.

• Naoe: Is this where you bring all the girls?
• Gennojo: Yep.

After giving him a pat on his back, Naoe gave a small laugh.

• Naoe: Ha. That's twice now that you've gotten caught. You're not a very good thief, aren't you?
• Gennojo: Ouch. That hurts more than these wounds.
• Naoe: Am I wrong?
• Gennojo: All my life I was the best. Until one day I got caught.
• Naoe: By a samurai.

Gennojo nodded.

• Gennojo: Tatsugoro wanted me dead. But Nobunaga wanted all hands on the construction of his new castle.
• Naoe: You worked on the castle?

Gennojo stood up to look out the windows.

• Gennojo: I was terrible. And Tatsugoro wasn't satisfied. To make me pay, he went to my village. They say my mother fell at his feet. So he killed her. My father went mad and attacked him bare-handed. I came home to find their heads on pikes.
• Naoe: I'm so sorry.
• Gennojo: I wanted to kill Tatsugoro. Kill all of them. But I'm no one. I'm nothing.
• Naoe: You're not nothing. I wouldn't be here if you were.
• Gennojo: Enough living in the past.
  Life is short. Might as well embrace it.
• Naoe: I'm learning that, in this world, you need to embrace your pain. There's no way around it.
• Gennojo: (sighs) I was hoping to embrace something else.
• Naoe: You can't run away from your pain forever, Gennojo.
• Gennojo: Away? Look at these bruises. I'm running towards it.
• Naoe: I didn't mean that literally. Let's try meeting at Nijo Palace again. This time, how about not getting caught?

Outcome

Naoe rescued Gennojo from a pair of samurai. After taking him back to his home to recuperate, Gennojo shared his past to her. Trying to encourage him to embrace his pain, Naoe told him to meet at Nijo Palace to focus on stealing the rice.
