Naoe:There's blood in your fur. Were you in a fight?
Stray Dog: (barks)
Naoe:Show me who hurt you. I'll follow.
Stray Dog: (barks)
Naoe followed the dog.
Naoe:Auntie Matsu always told me to look out for strange dogs. Soft fur, but sharp teeth.
Stray Dog: (growls)
Naoe:I wonder how long you waited at Ichiro's grave. What an unusual relationship you must have had with him.
Stray Dog: (barks)
Naoe:Where are you taking me? Not into a trap, I hope.
Stray Dog: (barks)
Naoe:I'll have to trust you.
Samurai Duelist 1:Where is that stupid dog?
Samurai Duelist 2:Look harder. Takako wants that key!
Samurai Duelist 1:There's the mutt! Get him!
Naoe protected the dog from the samurai.
Naoe:Your purpose has somehow become mine.
Stray Dog: (barks)
Naoe:I do not usually follow dogs. There is something about you, though...You know something about Ichiro's death, don't you?
Stray Dog: (barks)
Naoe:Lead on. We will uncover the truth.
Reaching a home, the dog growled at a woman there.
Stray Dog: (barks, growls)
Naoe approached the woman, Takako.
Takako:Ah, so the mongrel's left my brother-in-law's side. He's been lying there whimpering for days. Ichiro, that idiot! He inherited the big, beautiful estate while me and my husband live on a farm like animals!
Naoe:What exactly happened to Ichiro?
Takako:Ah, the fool choked on some fish. Didn't check for bones first. And now he's bones! Probably why the mutt stayed. Dogs love bones. And now, the estate is ours. (laughs)
Stray Dog: (growls)
Naoe:The dog doesn't like you.
Takako:The feelings mutual. Before Ichiro died, he hid the inheritance and gave the key to this creature.
Naoe:You took it back?
Takako:Not before that mutt attacked my guards. Almost bit my arm off! Some of that blood on his fur is mine.
Naoe:Give the key back, and I'll go. And take the dog with me.
Takako:Ichiro's box is nowhere to be found. The key is useless.
Takako:If you find the key, take it! Just leave me out of it.
Naoe left the woman alone and turned to the dog.
Stray Dog: (barks)
Naoe:That key must be nearby. I'm trusting your nose to find the key.
Stray Dog: (sniffs)
Naoe found the key underneath the house.
Naoe:Here it is. The key.
Upon resurfacing from the house's crawlspace, Naoe discovered that the dog had disappeared.
Naoe:Hmm, where'd he go? Maybe he went back to his owner's side.
Naoe returned to Ichiro's gravesite where she first found the dog. The dog was standing in front a box, to which the key Naoe had just found unlocked.
Naoe:You were protecting this the whole time.
A letter was inside the box.
Naoe:"If you are reading this, you have earned the trust of my one and only friend. Takako has succeeded in her plan. I knew it would not be long before she put a knife in my back. Tell Tsuki-maru I am sorry, and scratch his head for me. Behind the ears."
Tsuki-maru: (barks)
Naoe:Tsuki-maru, eh?
Tsuki-maru: (barks)
Naoe:Ichiro says he's sorry. And when you're ready to say goodbye to him, you would make a great guard dog. With me, at your new home.
