An Evening in Otsu was a virtual representation of one of Yasuke's genetic memories, relived through the Animus EGO.[1]
Description
Yasuke travels to Otsu to meet with Lady Nene's contact.
Dialogue
In Otsu's Upper District, Yasuke found Lady Nene's contact, who was a shrine maiden.
- Aoi the Miko: Yasuke! Over here.
- Yasuke: That must be our contact.
Yasuke spoke to her.
- Aoi the Miko: Welcome to Otsu.
- Yasuke: Thank you. Any news?
- Aoi the Miko: Indeed. A high-ranking member of the group you're hunting has agreed to a duel on Otsu's famous Seta Bridge.
- Yasuke: A one-on-one duel is rare outside of battle.
- Aoi the Miko: Yes. The challenge was posted on the town's notice board. But I don't know when it takes place, or even which duelist is our target.
- Yasuke: So we should look around town for more.
- Aoi the Miko: Start on the bridge. You might discover something.
Yasuke made his way to the bridge.
- Yasuke: Aoi said a member of the Shinbakufu will be fighting on the bridge.
Still in Otsu's Lower District, he overheard a conversation.
- Elderly Man: Did you hear? There's a duel on the bridge.
- Woman: Yes, they say the old Rokkaku lord has returned to reclaim his castle.
- Elderly Man: Like the legendary fight between Benkei and Ushiwaka-maru! This will bring great fame to Otsu.
Yasuke left the town and after a short while, he reached the bridge.
- Yasuke: Here is the bridge. I should look around.
At the eastern part of the bridge, he found artisans working.
- Artisan 1: Why is the Akechi clan sending us home? I need to get paid.
- Artisan 2: All work on the bridge is halted until the duel is over.
- Artisan 1: Duel? What duel?
- Artisan 2: Our former lord, Shotei. He has challenged Lord Mitsuhide's obnoxious nephew to single combat.
- Artisan 1: Ah. Let us find a man of low character and place some bets!
Yasuke climbed down to a platform under the bridge and found a notice.
Bridge Notice
- Artisans
All work on the bridge is halted until after tonight's duel.
Violators will be fed to my hounds.
-Akechi Kagemitsu
- Yasuke: I will need to wait.
He found a spot on the platform to wait.
- Yasuke: Now we play the waiting game. Must wait. Until nightfall.
Yasuke waited until night time. At this moment, he heard a noise coming from up the bridge.
- Akechi Kagemitsu: Our warriors are in place?
- Gamo Yoshimitsu: Yes. He won't see us until it's too late.
He saw the arrival of Akechi Kagemitsu and his bodyguard Gamo Yoshimitsu.
- Akechi Kagemitsu: My uncle will be pleased when I bring him this old fool's head. For ten years, Oda Nobunaga tried to kill this miserable old man. I'll do it in one night.
He heard more sounds from the other side.
- Katsuhime: Father, don't. It's an ambush. It has to be.
- Shotei: The leader of the Fifty-Three Families of Koga does not walk away. Especially not here. In the lands of my youth. In the place I called home.
Shotei and Kagemitsu walked to the middle of the bridge.
- Akechi Kagemitsu: Ready to die, old man?
Shotei said nothing.
- Akechi Kagemitsu: What's wrong? Still composing your samurai death poem? (laughs)
- Shotei: You. You inbred whelp of a jumped-up traitor. Your clan would be nothing without the Demon of Owari. Now the Demon is dead and the Traitor will fall. And you... you die tonight.
- Akechi Kagemitsu: So say you. But there are other powers in this land. The Shinbakufu is rising!
With Kagemitsu's proclaimation, Yasuke was able to identify which of the duelist was the Shinbakufu member.
- Yasuke: It is him!
- Akechi Kagemitsu: (whistles)
Kagmitsu ordered his men to kill the former daimyo., effectively stopping the duel before it began.
- Akechi Kagemitsu: Bring me the old man's head!
Shotei drew his katana. With him being outnumbered, Yasuke headed to the top of the bridge to stand in front of Shotei, defending him. From behind, one of Kagemitsu's men attemped to attack him but was shot down with an arrow.
- Akechi Kagemitsu: Who's that?
- Gamo Yoshimitsu: Sir. Back to the castle.
Kagemitsu ran way with his guard, while Shotei did the same and retreated. Yasuke then confronted the remainder of the Akechi soldiers.
- Ashigaru Spearman: Ambush! We're under attack!
- Yasuke: Face me, cowards!
After clearing a few of the guards, the ashigaru archers were flanked by shots from an unknown group.
- Ashigaru Archer: They're shooting at us. Run away!
This distraction gave Yasuke the chance to eliminate the remaining men. With the fight over, Aoi ran over to Yasuke's location.
- Aoi the Miko: Yasuke! I'm here.
That was am ambush, not a duel. But now we know. Akechi Kagemitsu is definitely Shinbakufu. - Yasuke: He ran back to Sakamoto. Is that where he lives?
- Aoi the Miko: Correct. Akechi Kagemitsu holds the castle when his uncle, Lord Mitsuhide, is away.
- Yasuke: Then we must break in and take his head.
- Aoi the Miko: Unless you have an army, I'd suggest a more careful approach. The old man, the other duelist. That was Shotei, former daimyo of Omi. He also commands the shinobi of Koga.
- Yasuke: Shotei? I know that name. One of Lord Nobunaga's most stubborn foes.
- Aoi the Miko: Yes. If anyone knows a secret route into Sakamoto Castle, it's him.
- Yasuke: Where can I find him?
- Aoi the Miko: He fled east. The fify-three families have holdings in the Shimmering Fields.
- Yasuke: I will find him and get his help.
- Aoi the Miko: Good. I'll inform Naoe of your plans.
Outcome
Yasuke interrupted the duel between Akechi Kagemitsu and Shotei, saving the latter from am ambush. As both Kagemitsu and Shotei survived and fled, Aoi suggested that Yasuke seek out the Koga ikki leader for help.
