João Machado (died 1558) was a priest who served as the right hand of the Portuguese missionary Gaspar Vilela during his mission in Japan. Like his lord, João was also a member of the Templar Order.

In 1558, João was on a Portuguese ship leaving off the coast of the [[wikipedia:Owari Province|Owari Province]] when the ship was boarded by the kunoichi Mochizuki Chiyome and the Japanese Assassin Akira, both of whom were on different missions by their lord Oda Nobunaga. Mochizuki sought to obtain the arquebuses for Nobunaga's army, while Akira sought the wooden box carrying a Piece of Eden who was in João's possession. The Assassin dispatched João's men and assassinated him with his Hidden Blade, and during the confusion, the wooden box ended up in the hands of Mochizuki. João perished alongside his men when one of them threw a burning match into a gunpower case, exploding the ship.[1]
