João Machado (died 1558) was a priest who served as the right hand of the Portuguese missionary Gaspar Vilela during his mission in Japan. Like his lord, João was also a member of the Templar Order.
In 1558, João was on a Portuguese ship leaving off the coast of the Owari Province when the ship was boarded by the Japanese Assassins, the kunoichi Mochizuki Chiyome and the rōnin Akira, both of whom were on different missions for the Brotherhood's ally Oda Nobunaga. Mochizuki sought to obtain the arquebuses for Nobunaga's army, while Akira sought the wooden box carrying a Piece of Eden that was in João's possession.
