Prize of the Medusa was one of four Atlantis artifacts, leftover pieces of technology created by the Isu Aita and Juno as part of Olympos Project.
The artifact was capable of transmutating its users into the projected image of its guardian, in this case the Writhing Dread, a Gorgon, with its most famous incarnation being Medusa. The artifact passed from guardian to guardian until it was seized by the Spartan misthios Kassandra in 422 BCE, during the Peloponnesian War.[1]
The artifact also acted as a key, of sorts, to seal the gateway to Atlantis.[2]
