The Staff of Hermes Trismegistus, also known as the Staff of Hermes or the Caduceus, is an extremely powerful Piece of Eden created by the Isu. It was most notably wielded by the Isu philosopher Hermes Trismegistus, as well as Pythagoras and his daughter, Kassandra.

Functionality

The Staff of Hermes' most prominent ability is to bestow its wielder with immortality. It has the power preserve its owner and protect them from the passages of time as well as sustain them. This was seen when Pythagoras was kept alive for a very long time by the Staff as he even lived inside Atlantis without proper food or sustenance due to the Staff's power sustaining him.

However, once he finally passed down the Staff of Hermes to one of his children, Kassandra, he immediately passed away. The Staff was even able to keep Kassandra unchanged and un-aged for far longer, more than two thousand years, until she was able to pass it down to Layla, after which Kassandra succumbed to her age and finally passed away. Physical contact between the wielder and the Staff was required to impart such longevity however, and those who released their grip on Staff past the natural lifetime and willingly passed it onto their successors or had it forcefully taken away from them would die almost instantly (although this required both entities to maintain physical contact on the Staff at the same time). The Staff is even the key to sealing off Atlantis.

Aside from its life-giving powers, the Staff of Hermes can even take the form of whatever it's user chooses, given that Kassandra came back to Atlantis to greet Layla with the Staff in the shape of a lantern. Should Kassandra choose to fight Pythagoras, the Staff shows that it can give Pythagoras the physical attributes of a young man, despite his elderly appearance and vitality. Pythagoras was even able to use the Staff to create precise blasts of energy and teleport across short distances during combat. He can even conjure up balls of energy and even channel some of the Staff's mystical power into himself and project that energy form his hands. As long as one didn't pass the Staff on willingly to their successors, the wielders would still remain alive and maintain all of its abilities even after physically separating from it.
