The Capture of Berwick, also known as the Massacre of Berwick,[1] was the first significant battle of the First War of Scottish Independence.On 30 May 1296, after the English invaded Scotland months earlier, they marched towards Berwick, then the most important trading port, and began to sack the town.[2] During the battle, twins Fillian and Aileas got separated: Fillian found protection with a mysterious group of warriors, while Aileas was saved by an English Captain.[3]
