Nobusuke (died 1868) was a Japanese rōnin.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Nobusuke was a veteran samurai but lost his honor after razing a village in a fit of rage. He and eight other rōnin were contracted by British Templar William Lloyd to steal the Musashi Masamune from a local daimyo Saigo Kayano. Despite the Masmune being a great bounty, he and the other rōnin agreed to retrieve the katana for Lloyd.[1] One night, they all attacked the soldiers at Kayano's encampment. He and his fellow rōnin Saizu made their way with Lloyd and attacked the soldiers guarding Kayano.[2]

Nobusuke entered the tent with Lloyd and quickly killed all of Kayano's bodyguards. After he watched Lloyd kill Kayano and recover the Masumune, he was ordered to kill a cowardly samurai Shiba Ibuka, who was in the corner. Angry at not having the Masume, he grabbed Ibuka and kicked him out of the tent. However, his kick caused Ibuka to fall on fellow rōnin Masajiro and led the soldier Taisuke to gain an upper hand and deliver a quick, unexpected, and fatal blow to Saizu, who was fighting Lady Nakano Takeko. Left alone by Lloyd, Nobusuke fought against Lady Takeko and Taisuke, only to fall to their combined force.[3]

Personality and traits[edit | edit source]

After his razing of a village,[1] Nobusuke cared little of who he had to kill and cared more about a profit. When given the task by Lloyd, he only wanted the Masamune, which almost led him to being disloyal to Lloyd. However, Lloyd accompanied the rōnin on their mission to safeguard the Masamune when it was taken.[2]
