The Napoleonic Wars were a series of wars taking place after the French Revolution during Napoleon Bonaparte's reign. On one side stood the French Empire and its conquered areas, on the other stood the British Empire and allies who formed resistance.

When Napoleon invaded Spain in 1807, he appointed his brother Joseph as king. The next year, Joseph issued a royal decree abolishing the Spanish Inquisition.^[1]

An ancestor of Desmond Miles' mother lived during this war.^[2]
