Festival of the Supreme Being
- "At this moment, he sees an entire nation, at war with all the oppressors of the human race, suspend its heroic efforts in order to raise its thoughts and vows to the Great Being who gave it the mission to undertake these efforts and the strength to execute them."

The Festival of the Supreme Being was a festival held on the Le Champ de Mars, in the city of Paris, France on 8 June 1794.
History[edit | edit source]
The festival was organized by Robespierre's friend, Jacques-Louis David, alongside fellow supporters of Robespierre.[1] A loose interpretation of the Templars' ideals, the idea of the "Supreme Being" had made Robespierre want to declare a inaugural holiday for his people as well as the new state religion. Despite a letter of warning from his Grand Master, François-Thomas Germain, Robespierre continued on with his festivities. Once the festival started, the Jacobin leader was already being opposed due to his multiple beheadings during his reign.[2]
However, through some investigation and sleuthing, Arno Dorian found incriminating evidence against Robespierre as he had selected names from the National Convention to be brought to the guillotine. His ally, Élise de la Serre, also found Robespierre's wine and started to drug it to cause Robespierre to have hallucinations. While Robespierre continued with his speech, Arno filled the critics' pockets in the audience with Robespierre's list for the next executions. As the festival ended with a slurring Robespierre, the people had begun to turn against him as Arno's and Élise's plan to discredit him worked. As a result, his allies and support dissipated.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Historically, the festival was planned too well as the atmosphere was stiff. The festival ultimately backfired and became one of the main factors of Robespierre's descent.[3]
