Naoe and Yasuke passed by Seta Bridge, overhearing two residents.
Elderly Woman:He strongly resembled our former daiymo, Lord Yoshikata.
Man 1:Don't be foolish! The old lord has been on the run for a dozen years.
They reached The Shimmering Fields, passing by a couple along the road.
Man 2:I saw torches on the hill, near the old Koga compound.
Woman:Foolish husband. That place has been abandoned for years.
Man 2:It must be ghosts. Or bandits. Or ghosts of bandits! Those are the worst.
As they passed by another bridge, they overheard a pair of children with their mother.
Child 1:You can't see me! I'm an invisible shinobi from Koga. Hiding in the shadows.
Child 2:I'm Hattori Hanzō from Iga. I throw flour dust into the shadows. Now I see you!
Child 1:No fair! Stupid Igans are rivals. They are not allowed in Koga.
Child 2:Yes they are! They can magically fly over the hills and through the air.
Child 1:Mom! He's cheating again!
Yasuke:Such clever children. They live near Koga and are impressed by its history.
After reaching a waterfall, Naoe and Yasuke arrived at the abandoned Koga village.
Yasuke:I have followed this old man this far. Shotei should be here.
Reaching the far end of the village, they heard a drunk man inside the hut.
Shōtei:Here idly in a dark and lowly hut, I sleep the time away as the seasons change. Not for heat nor cold are my clothes sewn. And to a skeleton my frame has waned. Damn you, Nobunaga! Your death was mine. Akechi you dog! You bit your master and stole my vengeance. (cries)
Naoe and Yasuke enter the room, finding the drunken monk inside drinking his sorrows away.
Shōtei:Who's there? My enemies? Come and try me, Akechi dogs.
Naoe:Why would she go there? Why would anyone go there? It is a place of ghosts.
Shōtei:To hunt our enemies. To defy me. To punish me.
Naoe and Yasuke turned around.
Shōtei:Wait! A moment. You two saved my life. When the time comes, I will stand with you at Sakamoto.
The two nodded in agreement and left.
Naoe:I'll head to Enryakuji and find his daughter.
Yasuke:Good. I will meet you at Sakamoto later.
Leaving Koga, Naoe rode to Enryakuji Temple west of Sakamoto. As she reached the path leading up to the temple, she overheard two nearby merchants.
Merchant 1:The mountain thunders with the wrath of yokai.
Merchant 2:Fool! That is the crack and roar of a teppo firing.
Merchant 1:What? The ghosts have mastered gunpowder? I am even more alarmed than before.
Naoe rode up the hill, soon reaching the footsteps of Enryakuji.
Naoe:Enryakuji. Nobunga slaughtered thousands here. Their spirits still haunt the land. Such desolation. And for what? To feed the pride of vengeful men.
As she went up the steps, she heard noises coming south of her location.
Naoe:What was that?
As she reached the top, she found the body of a monk.
Naoe:This monk still bleeds. The killer can't be far.
As she tried to look around, she was soon attacked by a Koga shinobi.
Shinobi:Die, Iga scum!
Naoe:Koga shinobi, after me again.
After killing the shinobi, she picked up a letter from his body.
Naoe:Damn. The Shinbakufu hired Koga shinobi to kill us.
As Naoe went higher up to the temple, she pondered over the thought of recruiting Shōtei's daughter.
Shōtei:Shotei sent me to find his daughter. But how can a spoiled daimyo's child help us?
As she reached the top, she found a group of soldiers looking for Katsuhime. As the soldiers attacked Naoe, Katsuhime appeared and provided cover from above the pagodas.
Katsuhime:Ha! This is the Way of the Teppo!
With the marksman's help, Naoe was able to defeat the soldiers. She then looked up to speak to Katsuhime, who now pointed her teppo at Naoe.
Katsuhime:Who are you?
Naoe:I am Naoe. From Iga.
Katsuhime:And what does someone from Iga want from me?
Naoe:Your help getting into Sakamoto Castle and killing Akechi Kagemitsu.
Katsuhime withdrew her gun and turned around to leave.
Katsuhime:That is my father's fight. Not mine.
Naoe:What happened to filial piety?
Katsuhime turned back around.
Katsuhime:I followed that man from the hills of Koga to the flames of Ishiyama Honganji. I followed him for twelve years. He has no more loyal follower than me.
Naoe:So why stop now?
Katsuhime:I don't want to see him die in a foolish vendetta against the Akechi clan.
Naoe:As opposed to dying in a meaningless fight on Mount Hiei.
Katsuhime:Those are my father's enemies. But I will consider your words. Farewell, Naoe.
Katsuhime left the temple.
Naoe:Time to head to Sakamoto. Shotei will be waiting.
Outcome
Naoe and Yasuke protected Shōtei from rōnin hired by the Akechi clan before heading off to Enryakuji to find Shōtei's daughter. They tried to convince Katsuhime to help them fight, which she replied she would consider.
