Giza (Arabic: الجيزة) is a desert region around the contemporary city of Giza in central Egypt, located on the western bank of the river Nile. It is home to the Great Pyramids and the Great Sphinx, as well as several other monuments. In ancient times, it was the necropolis of the nearby city of Memphis, the capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom.

History

In the 420s BCE, Darius and his grandson Elpidios moved to the region, fleeing the dangers that being around Elpidios' mother Kassandra wrought.[2]

During the 1st century BCE, Khaliset, a member of the Order of the Ancients, often travelled the region in search of rare minerals for her Order. In secret, Khaliset also sought the means to revive her deceased daughter, Eshe. However, she went rogue after discovering an Isu vault beneath the Great Pyramid.[3]

In 48 BCE, the Medjay Bayek of Siwa arrived in Giza to find and eliminate Khaliset. Aided by Apollodorus' local contact, a merchant named Mered, he tracked Khaliset to the Great Pyramid and killed her.[3]

In 46 BCE, after the destruction of the Order of the Ancients in Egypt and the establishment of the Hidden Ones, Menkhtu, a former follower of Medunamun, wore the mask of his deceased master and proclaimed himself "The Ibis Reborn", founding his own sect. The cultists attempted to break into the Isu vault under the Great Pyramid, hoping to unravel the secrets of its pedestal and gain the knowledge and power to conquer Egypt. However, the Hidden Ones, led by their Mentor Bayek, pursued and eliminated Menkhtu and his followers, ending the Sect of the Ibis Reborn.[4]
