This article is about the eighth pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty. For other uses, see Thutmose.
Thutmose IV (died 1391 or 1388 BCE), also known as Thothmes IV, was the eighth pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt.
While a prince, Thutmose once slept between the paws of the Great Sphinx of Giza, seeing a vision of the god Horemakhet proclaiming his coming accession on the condition that all of the sand covering the Sphinx were removed.[1] He comissioned a 15-ton stele to commemorate his dream, installing it where he had once slept.[2] Another intervention at the Sphinx was an attempt to seal off a back entrance.[3]
In 2012, Abstergo Industries added a mnemonic set to Project Legacy themed around the obelisks in Rome and added Thutmose to it to represent the Lateran Obelisk, as its original comissioner.[4]
