Ptolemy Neos Dionysos Theos Philopator Philadelphos (Πτολεμαῖος Νέος Διόνυσος Θεός Φιλοπάτωρ Φιλάδελφος; c. 117 BCE – c. 51 BCE), better known as Ptolemy XII Auletes, was a pharaoh of Egypt's Ptolemaic dynasty. He was the father of Cleopatra VII and Ptolemy XIII, both of whom succeeded him and jointly ruled Egypt after his death.

At some point during Ptolemy's reign, an earthquake struck the city of Alexandria, causing damage to the city as well as the Tomb of Alexander the Great, altering the structure's foundation.[1] Ptolemy was also a close ally of Pompey, who commissioned a shield for the pharaoh as a gift for the alliance.[2]
