In 1552, Machado, accompannied by a contingent of Knights, was dispatched to the Chinese island of Shangchuan to track down[1] his fellow Templar[2] Francis Xavier and the Precursor box he carried. Machado and the knights killed Xavier and his entourage, taking the relic with them, and awaited exfiltration by way of a Portuguese merchant ship bound for Nagasaki, Japan the following morning, where Vilela awaited them. However, their ship was attacked by a junk, possibly belonging to the pirates that dwelled around Shangchuan or to the Ming military, and, at the same time, it was infiltrated by Assassins led by Shao Jun that managed to recover the box.[1]
