In 1923, following the discovery of a secondary tunnel leading to an new network of chambers and passageways at the dig site,[3] Carnarvon hastily departed England for Cairo, Egypt aboard a private plane, taking along a contingent of Templar agents.[2] Recognizing, from the laborers' accounts, that they had uncovered the entrance to an Isu vault, the Templars swiftly mobilized to seize control of the site. At the vault, Carnarvon and his men were attacked by what seemed to be a living mummy and the creatures it managed to summon by making use of the Ring of Sand. Carnarvon had to be carried out of the tomb, bleeding from the neck.[3]
