Chef Hong was a virtual representation of one of Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke's genetic memories, relived through the Animus EGO.

Description

Naoe and Yasuke follow Niwa Nagahide's suggestion to seek out a man named Hong, who may have information on the troubles in Wakasa.

Dialogue

From the Nagahide Estate, Naoe and Yasuke traveled back to Obama, overhearing a pair of guards along the way.

• Ashigaru Swordsman: The best noodles I've ever tasted, no lie. He puts in a special spice or something.
• Ashigaru Archer: (snorts) That stall in Obama? Near the river? Even my mother cooks better noodles.
• Ashigaru Swordsman: Oh? Then tell your mother to cook some for me!

The crossed a bridge to enter the city and overheard an old man.

• Elderly Man: The taste, the smell of the broth... crustaceans, or fish?

They approached the man.

NaoeYasuke

• Elderly Man 1: Soy? No. Maybe. Fish bones, likely. The ocean brine is obvious. You! Do not step into my thinking space! I am in deep thought.
• Naoe: In deep thought about...?
• Elderly Man 1: The noodles, of course! Hong's specialty! I must figure out the secret to the broth. I must.

• Elderly Man 1: Soy? No. Maybe. Fish bones, likely. The ocean brine is obvious. You! Do not step into my thinking space! I am in deep thought.
• Yasuke: May I ask what you are thinking about?

They continued on past the man toward a bridge, where they heard two men speaking on the bridge.

• Man 1: It tires my bones to cross the saba-kaidō again. In recent times, it's grown dangerous.
• Man 2: You heard the rumors then, about Lord Nagahide? How can anyone touch such a powerful clan?
• Man 1: I don't know what to believe. But I have my own troubles to worry about.

They soon crossed into a street filled with a number of shops.

NaoeYasuke

• Naoe: Lord Nagahide said to follow our noses. It must be related to food.

• Yasuke: Lord Nagahide said the stall is along the river. I should look for the red lanterns.

They overheard two women.

• Woman 1: Ugh, he came home reeking of sake. Stumbled around the kitchen and destroyed my best cooking pot!
• Woman 2: Exactly like my husband. He apologized the morning after but those words are only words.
• Woman 1: We should ship them off to Ōmi! They might fit in better there.

Closer to the Trading Port, they heard an elderly man and woman speaking.

• Elderly Woman: The broth is light, but the depth of the flavor...
• Elderly Man 2: It must be the spices from overseas. The blend is like nothing I have tasted before.

Having crossed the river's bridge, they then passed by a pair of children.

• Noble Child: When I stuff a ton of noodles in my mouth, I look like a scary boar!
• Child: No you don't! You look like a fish! (giggles)

They encountered some more children.

NaoeYasuke

• Child 2: She looks so cool! Sister, play with us!
• Naoe: I do not have time now.

• Child 2: He's so tall! Hello, sir! Good day to you!
• Yasuke: Hello.

After a short while, Naoe and Yasuke found a shop with a red lantern hanging outside as mentioned by Lord Nagahide. As they entered, they smelled a certain aroma permeating from inside.

NaoeYasuke

• Naoe: That delightful smell... this must be it.

• Yasuke: Hmm. The aroma... delicious. This has to be it.

• Hong: (grunts)

Naoe and Yasuke found on the floor of Hong's place another document detailing Takeda clan history.

History of the Takeda - Volume II

Wakasa's shores brought trade from lands beyond the sea, and the Takeda Clan prospered in these lands for a very long time.

The Wakasa Takeda lords ruled Nochiseyama Castle until the eighth generation lord Takeda Motoaki. After the defeat of the Wakasa Takeda Clan by the Echizen Asakura Clan in 1568, Nochiseyama Castle was abandoned.

Naoe and Yasuke took a seat as they found Hong busy inside the kitchen.

NaoeYasuke

• Naoe: Hello.

• Yasuke: Nice to meet you.

• Hong: So, what are you having?
• Yasuke: Can we have some rice, with vegetables?
• Hong: Only noodles.
• Yasuke: Um... mian?

Hong nodded his head to Yasuke's answer.

• Hong: So. Lord Nagahide sent you. Why?
• Naoe: His clan members were massacred. He said you might know who was behind it.
• Hong: I heard. Terrible. But I just sell noodles.

Hong served them a bowl of noodles each.

• Hong: People talk easy when bellies are full. Many come by for my noodles. So... I learn things.
• Naoe: Thank you for the meal.

Naoe and Yasuke indulge in their bowl of noodles.

• Hong: Pirates cause trouble across Wakasa. Stealing, killing, smuggling. One group talked about their leader. Samemaru. Seen him around. (grunts) Big man, scar on his face. Could strangle a horse. Said he was from Hiruga Bay.
• Naoe: We can start there. Anything else?
• Hong: Lord Nagahide has more relatives in Wakasa. So more bodies in Wakasa. Unless you stop it. One of them eats here a lot. (grunts) Always talks about Tsuruga Castle. Always talks a lot.

Naoe and Yasuke finished their food.

• Hong: So. How are my noodles?
• Naoe: I prefer my noodles a little harder. These are adequate.
• Hong: (grunts) Good.
  Kill the pirates. That's payment enough.

The two stood up from their seats.

• Naoe: Thank you for the noodles.

NaoeYasuke

• Naoe: Two locations. Hiruga Bay and Tsuruga Castle. I'll get started.

• Yasuke: Hiruga Bay and Tsuruga Castle. Two leads to follow.

The two left the stall.

• Hong: Come back again for more noodles.

Outcome

Naoe and Yasuke dined at Hong's noodle store, gaining information from Hong regarding the attacks on the Niwa clan. The chef gave a lead on a certain pirate named Sanemaru who operated in Hiruga Bay, and also suggested the possibility of an attack on the Niwa clan members near Tsuruga Castle.
