Arriving on Awaji , Naoe investigates her mother 's whereabouts in the coastal town of Sumoto.

A Shinobi on Awaji was a virtual representation of one of Fujibayashi Naoe 's genetic memories , relived through the Animus EGO .[1]
Naoe arrives on the island of Awaji , seeking information on her mother 's whereabouts.
Some time after the puppet show in Izumi Settsu , Naoe arrived off the coast of Awaji.
Naoe: Awaji. If the lead from the puppet show is true, Tsuyu is somewhere on this island. Naoe rode her boat towards the town of Sumoto and reached its docks. Beginning her search, she approached a man sitting at the dock.
Naoe: Excuse me. Civilian 1: What are you doing here? On the same dock, Naoe got onto the roof of a nearby boat house and eaves dropped on two nearby women.
Civilian 3: I tell you, that forest is haunted. Civilian 4: Those rumors are older than either of us, yet there is still no truth to them. Civilian 3: How do you explain all the missing people? Civilian 4: The forest has its dangers, but ghosts are not one of them. Naoe: No, I need to keep looking. Leaving the dock, she spoke to a man in front of an onsen.
Naoe: Excuse me. Civilian 2: Leave me. Just leave. She approached a beggar by a cart of barrels.
Naoe: Hello. Civilian 5: Leave me be! She approached a man in front of a residence.
Naoe: Excuse me. Civilian 6: Not another one. Go away! Near a lantern shop, Naoe approached a woman with a hat.
Naoe: Hello! Civilian 8: Leave me alone. Going further down the road, she approached another beggar.
Naoe: Excuse me. Civilian 9: The answer is no. She found a woman near a bridge.
Naoe: Hello. Civilian 7: I shouldn't be seen talking to you. As Naoe continued looking, she commented on the armor worn by the soldiers..
Naoe: So many guards... Near the Sumoto Daily Market , Naoe entered an inn and sat down to blend in, eavesdropping on a guard scolding the innkeeper.
Inn Keeper: Please accept my most humblest apologies but we have no more of that particular beverage. Guard 1: You disrespect me! I should throw you to that caged shinobi! Bah. I was done with this stinking place anyway. Naoe: Could the prisoner they speak of be my mother? I can learn more... But I must not draw attention to myself. The guard leaves the inn, with Naoe tailing from a distance. She witnessed the guard knocking into a villager.
Guard 1: Out of my way, idiot! Civilian 10: Please don't hurt me! Mercy! She then witnessed the guard going into a backyard of a tavern.
Guard 2: Greetings, sir. Pass right through. She spots an innocent civilian surrounded by two guards.
Civilian 11: I don't know what you're looking for! Please, don't kill me! Guard 3: You're a traitor and will die like one! You can't run from me, girl! She witnessed the guard killing woman.
As the guard leaves the tavern, Naoe followed him to another backyard and confronted him.
Guard 1: You! Get out of here before you feel the flat of my hand! Naoe: Back at the inn, you mentioned a shinobi. Guard 1: [groans] Am I not allowed a single moment of peace? Leave. Now. Naoe: Tell me where the shinobi is, or I will take your head. Guard 1: You may try! Naoe attacked the guard and subdued him, forcing him to speak.
Naoe: Tell me or die! Guard 1: Sumoto castle, under the tenshu!
Near the bridge, Naoe entered a woodworking area and eavesdropped from a haystack .
Carpenter: Ah, my work is finally done. Citizen: Did you finish the order? Carpenter: Indeed. I have never built so strong a door. Not even the shinobi it holds could break it. Citizen: Was our lady satisfied? Carpenter: I was to receive a report but... I sent Taro to the Samurai Residence hours ago. Citizen: Let us go there then, collect it ourselves! Carpenter: No, we will wait. I have seen what Lady Yukari does to those who defy her. Naoe: A report in the Samurai Residence ? I should look for it. Naoe: This is the place. I should look for clues about the prisoner.
Update on the Shinobi
The new door installed under the Sumoto Castle Tenshu is of satisfactory quality. The shinobi was seen examining it extensively before returning to her corner to brood.
Naoe: The prisoner is a shinobi, held beneath the tenshu for several years now. A shinobi... Surely it is Tsuyu?
Despite the lack of help from the locals, Naoe discovered that her mother was being kept at Sumoto Castle.
