Fall of Constantinople
The Fall of Constantinople, also known as the Conquest of Istanbul, was the capture of Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire, by the Ottoman Empire under the command of the 21-year old Sultan Mehmet II, against the Byzantine army led by Emperor Constantine XI Palaiologos. Using the power of an Apple of Eden, Mehmet was able to emerge victorious against the Byzantine forces. This event marked the end of the Byzantine Empire.[1]
Decades later, the Italian Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze and the Ottoman Prince Suleiman I discussed the event as they arrived in Constantinople by ship in 1511. After Ezio noted that his father had told him stories about the "fall of Constantinople" as a child, Suleiman asked him if he meant the "conquest of Konstantiniyye" before remarking that the moral of any story could change depending on the personal views of the one retelling it.[2]
