The Lord Captain was a Spanish Templar who served as a loyal servant to the Crown of Aragon.

In the late 15th century, the Lord Captain and a fellow Templar associate who visited Barcelona were assigned a mission to travel to Italy. After leaving Zaragoza, the Lord Captain assigned his associate to guard Adrià, the son of a local Catalan nobleman while in Valencia. Upon leaving for Italy, all went to board a ship but were initially prohibited by the zealous priest Ristoro, though the Lord Captain intervened to confront the priest.[1]
The Lord Captain and his allies later arrived in Gavorrano, only to be ambushed by the Italian Templar Micheletto Corella and his men. Despite their rivalry, the Lord Captain was able to cease any fighting against Corella. The captain's group later arrived in Siena, where he met with the Pazzis and learned about the Lord of Monteriggioni being against their Order. Venturing to Pisa, the Lord Captain divulged to his associate that their mission was to search for a relic to amplify the Templar's power and that Adrià may be able to help.[1]
While their public objective was to promote the interest of the Crown of Aragon, one of the Lord Captain's actual missions was to attract and gain favor of the most influential men in Italy, especially in Florence. However, La Volpe found and confronted the captain during his visit. Escaping the city, the Lord Captain and his men traveled to Vernio, where he tried to persuade Lady Caterina Sforza, the Countess of Forli to aid him in his mission. She made a deal with him where he would provide Forli with defenses for an upcoming siege. When he found Master Engineer Gaspar de la Croix, the captain asked for any information on how to defend Forli efficiently. With his newfound knowledge, the Lord Captain assisted Caterina in defending Forlì. In exchange, the Lord Captain and his entourage were told to travel to Ravenna.[1]
However, the Lord Captain and his men were attacked by Bartolomeo d'Alviano and his men outside Ravenna. Traveling with his men to Padova, the Lord Captain was then accused of heresy by fellow Templar Silvio Barbarigo. Thankfully, the Lord Captain dealt with Barbarigo appropriately and cleared himself. While in Venice, his entourage was then attacked by thieves led by Antonio de Magianis. Venturing to Rome, the Lord Captain and his men were halted by Cesare Borgia's soldiers from the Papal armies. With the help of Lia de Russo, they all arrived in L'Aquila, where they met with Cesare himself.[1]
Finally arriving in Rome, the Lord Captain believed the relic was in the Vaticano District, but met with Rodrigo Borgia first before looking for the relic. While in Rome, he set up a meet at the Rosa in Fiore with Madonna Solari to escape the city after finding the relic. However, the Lord Captain and his company were betrayed by Solari while the Assassins attacked them. It was during the ordeal that Adrià was revealed to be the traitor among them. Escaping the battle and losing track of Adrià, the Lord Captain took his associate and his men to Constantinople. Although unwelcomed by the locals, the Lord Captain continued to lead his remaining men.[1]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
While specific dates are not given, a loose timeline can be constructed due to characters that are featured in the various missions. Despite this, the timeline does not seem very feasible. The first mission able to be assigned a date is "Nobility Loves Company", where the Lord Captain meets with the Pazzi family including Vieri, placing it sometime in or before April 1478. This presents some complications, as the preceding mission "Dog Eat Dog" featured Micheletto Corella, who would be 8 at this time, while the subsequent missions "By the Book" and "Aiming for the Stars" featured Nicolaus Copernicus and Pietro Rossi, who would be 5 and 8, respectively.
Allowing for some time to pass, the next dateable mission is "Life of the Party" which must take place sometime after July 1480 as Caterina Sforza is already styled as the Countess of Forlì. A few missions later in "The Countess only Knows", it is implied to be July 1488 as Forlì is under siege with Checco and Ludovico Orsi being shown. However, this is further complicated by the mission "Vested Interests", where the Lord Captain meets with Silvio Barbarigo who died 2 years before the Battle of Forlì.
Another jump then occurs, as Cesare is introduced as Captain General of the Papal Guard, an appointment that did not happen until after the death of his brother Juan Borgia the Younger in July 1497. Finally, at the end, the Lord Captain's journey is described in the term of months despite ostensibly having lasted about two decades.
